I'm curious who here competes in organized events. I'm not talking about meeting at the "gut" to sort out who's racing who on 475 in the middle of the night. I'm refering to events where you register, your car has to pass a tech inspection, you have to wear a helmet, so and so forth.

So, what did or do you compete in? Did you have any success?

Myself, I currently autocross and drift. In the past, I've done circle track, RuffTruck, crazy-8's, mud bogging, and the occasional Demo-derby. I got invited to Car Craft magazine's RSE event last year and was soundly handed my ass, but I did beat the drag race 'vette in the autocross. I'd like to get to a track day at one of the road courses here, in MI, but it's hard to part with the $150-$200 it costs..... I've had a few class wins and runner ups in autocross and managed to qualify top-8 at a couple of amatuer drift events. Scored a few heat wins in Demo-derby and crazy-8, but never the big feature win. Never had the bank-roll to be competitive in the other stuff.

I could try autocross, but I don't have the money/time recently.

Speaking of having fun with cars, I'm going to go to the sand dunes/beach with my Subaru in about a month :D

But someday before I die, I want to run in a stage rally with a H-pattern manual AWD Subaru

Going to the dunes at Silver Lake was something I'd like to have done before I sold my truck.

I race 1/4 mile and 1/8 mile at a few of the local drag strips. My current car (Challenger) is still in the process of being set up, however i have been having good luck with my results.. My former car was an SRT-4 and was a beast at the local drag strips.

No tracks around here anymore.. Mosport shut down. Stupid govt :@

Anyways, hoping to get into drift and circuit racing but its hard with only clay track, eliptic nascar tracks that dont allow drifting and drag strips around. Ultimately I wanna build an FJ24ET S12 for Rallying.

Hmm Mosport isn't shut down, they are actually hosting an ALMS event at the end of this month. Im rather fond of Mosport because I lived in Bowmanville and worked at the Bridgestone Racing Academy for about 8 months. Im also doing an internship with the Panoz Motorsports Group which actually owns it. Now there has been talk of closing it for a short time to do some safety renovations, there are a few sections of that track that could use some more run-off area.
As far as me racing, I started in shifter karts and dabbled in open wheel and sports cars. Then spent some time working as an instructor (which I dont recommend to you guys.) Currently I am in-between rides trying to decide if I want to devote myself full-time to stock cars or go back to open wheel. It's a very difficult choice since open wheel opportunities in the states are very scarce. Graham Rahal can't even get a full-time Indycar ride and it took a guy like Will Power forever to find one. Not to mention F1 at this point has lost interest in American drivers, and the chances of me ever coming up with the funds for a move to Europe are slim to none.
