and as for the TESOL cetificate i got. It was from A uni and im qualified to teach written and oral English had be if i need to i can write correctly.

Doonster, I'm sorry to hear about your condition. If you actually have them, I can sympathize.

But when teaching the very thing you have difficulty correctly doing everyday is the situation, I'm sure you can
understand my concern. That's not to say you can't do it- there are many cases of people with disabilities
overcoming them in a career with just that situation. So I applaud you if you are able to instruct English
despite conditions that would otherwise confuse the hell out of kids trying to learn from you. If you say you
did just that, I can call bull, but I honestly don't know.

Only you know how well you did. But I'm skeptical, that's all.

Young children ESPECIALLY need proper grammar and English- not sitting and learning it, but hearing it,
yes- those early years completely affect all foundation for proper English later. When plenty of people who
have no true business teaching English in Japan, because they don't use their own language properly, end
up in English teaching 3rd rate Eikaiwa (English conversation schools) in Japan every year, teaching
improper and ungrammatical English to kids every year, you can understand WHY I can be so pissed off if
I think someone is adding to that problem. I've seen it happen enough, and it enshrines constant, bad use
of the language. It ruins the chances of some kids of getting into a good school.

You seem nice enough, so I'll just wish you good luck

And to everyone out there who is teaching in Japan, in some Eikaiwa with unqualified teachers, gouging
30$ an hour or more for improper and slang English as normal, I hate you, and you ruin the good name of
qualified language teachers in Japan everywhere!

You don't have to have a certificate or college degree to teach English well- it helps a lot, but you don't need
to have it. It's the people who are teaching slang as direct normal English, and people who don't even know
basic grammar, people who use there instead of their, that I go after. And there are plenty of such shady
people in Japan, gouging kids for useless or plain bad English lessons.

I take it you are not using Firefox as your web browser, as it has had spell check for some time now. I believe this is also true for Chrome and Opera (10 and later), so I assume you are using Internet Explorer.

Last post- I promise- wonder why people like me are so passionate and infuriated by copyright law-

Stuff like this is a final (promise) example: http://yro.slashdot.org/story/10/06/22/1724254/Court-Takes-Away-Some-of-the-Public-Domain

The courts are now saying they can take something that HAS become free of copyright limits, ie: in the
public domain, free use, and retroactively make it copyrighted again!

How the hell are you ever supposed to be able to access any information if the courts are saying they
can take what finally became free to view, and lock it up again? This would make any and all information
ever made
retroactively copyrightable, even if the author is DEAD.

This is in simple terms why I hate copyright laws in modern form- they are a way for greedy people with no
creative input to lock up all human knowledge. This is as blatant an example as I can show you,
people like Zaldar and Rice.

Zaldar, what do you think of this? This goes way way beyond keeping what you created, indefinitely-
it's taking things other people may have even wanted to be public domain and locking them up. Just
wait till someone who created something dies, then STEAL THEIR WORK with retroactive copyright-
congratulations, you can now make others pay to use or cite the dead man's work that YOU never created-
you bought their work when it was never intended for sale, and you block access for money to something
that was made as free to the public-

It's pure evil.

Watched Bleach 275 since DB dropped the project after 274... I have to say these subs really suck. People say there's not much difference between fansubs and crunchysubs in terms of understanding the story, I'll agree with that. However, the quality of fansubs are much much higher. Watching Bleach 275, I caught an unbelievably stupid mistake and I'm sure a lot of other people have already as well.

First, it's an appeals court. Let's see what happens higher up. They normally get slapped around on appeal. Second, even if not going to a higher court, the appeals court ruling only affects that federal jurisdiction. Not the entire country. Even the level just below SCOTUS affects large regions, but not the entire US. Though, usually the rest of the courts get in line with the preliminary ruling (except for the 9th circuit, which has a history of forcing SCOTUS to do its job).

Third, there should be separation in the copyright issues. For this thread, Bleach isn't 28 years old. It falls under copyright. Most of the anger and complaints against copyright being put forward lately in the thread wouldn't apply to Bleach (copyright extensions after the fact, retroactive public domain taking). The infuriation of having to wait for a legal process aside, that isn't a copyright issue; that's the US court system being slow and having a phrack of a judge in it's midsts. SCOTUS was pretty clear in it's last major ruling involving copyright extension, that indefinite extensions were becoming a potential issue.

Fourth, there was a case involving a studio (Fox I think) awhile back (can't find it) where they were trying to lock down characters that had gone public domain but with a copyrighted work prior to that. For example, let's say character MM was first used in a movie in 1950. Had a 30 year copyright period. 1978 was the latest movie involving MM. Studio was arguing that since the movie was in 1968, the 30 year term applied from the latest movie, up into 2008. Courts said no, while the 1968 movie still had copyright protection until 2008, if the character was based on the 1950 movie, the character as determined in that early movie was public domain in 1980.

How the hell are you ever supposed to be able to access any information if the courts are saying they
can take what finally became free to view, and lock it up again? This would make any and all information
ever made
retroactively copyrightable, even if the author is DEAD.

Sucks, doesn't it. Consider that the next time you see the government take over someone's farm. Or beach front property. Or raise taxes. Or a building they want to build out of. They're simply applying the same procedure to copyright. Anything public domain or in this nation is subject to due process, and constitutional can be taken. Sword cuts both ways.

I agree that it isn't right, but consider how often you hear how justified people are in taking from the supposed rich, or the person who gets a windfall income, or someone preventing someone from fixing an issue (EPA), then the state using that inability to fix as the beginning point to take (violating someone's deed terms), because they "fixed" the problem and thus have a hand in determining future use (see hospitals)...or when someone suggestions nationalizing something (car industry, oil industry, etc.), that what they are doing is increasing the right of government to change the initial terms of the agreement retroactively. We shouldn't be surprised at this, since we never protected general property rights in the past 20-30 years either. Sucks when it's on the other foot. Swords tend to not care which way they cut.

I would even argue that with copyright, it's less of an effect, for the same reason that the work is still materially available usually (greed of doing this stems from rereleasing the work), unlike someone taking away one's livelihood and/or property.

This is in simple terms why I hate copyright laws in modern form- they are a way for greedy people with no
creative input to lock up all human knowledge. This is as blatant an example as I can show you,
people like Zaldar and Rice.

Copyright also protects against greed too. FSF, GPL, BSD or Apache or Mozilla or Apache licenses. Your own comments here. They are protected by copyright. They are the correct response to push back.

I'm not entirely on the same table as maybe the others; I think copyright extensions are crap, since they are essentially ex post facto modification fo the original terms under which the creative work was knowingly released. However, I'm generally for copyright. Most of the issues in copyright are based on demand of the "product", so if you really don't like it, create a work or a workaround that kicks it's ass. If DB was so high up on everyone's list, then pressure DB, not CR. DB or anyone else here could form a company and play on the same legal grounds. People could form a donation pool to show how much they'd want DB translations to continue if made available to kick back to Viz (after all, I believe any illegal work such as a derivative work or translation is still under copyright protection under that of the copyright holder), providing both a means and truer measure of what funds Viz, etc. are missing out on. Heck, it may make CR push harder to get an exception to the subtitling issue and enabling insertion of DB translated works (which are just a timestamp and the translation anyways).

But a lot of posters like to whine and complain since it's easier. So they don't do these things, it's too much work, they don't want to compete--people want stuff for free because it was free or because they "deserve" it. And what you have is a lot of other people, with not a care in the world, blaming others that have little say in the laws, remaining ignorant of why things are the way they are (like their own ignorance).

Zaldar, what do you think of this? This goes way way beyond keeping what you created, indefinitely-

No different when someone rips someone farm away from them that's been in their family for generations. Because the town wants land. So they condemn the area, and pay you a fraction of the market value. Then turn around, hand it off to a developer, who sells it for millions, and the town assess the land at the rate in order to receive their appropriate "cut" of the tax money in the form of property and school tax. That was covered on /. several years ago.

Sucks to be that farmer, but a lot of people benefited, so to build a highway or school, that's okay then too. See right of eminant domain.

Or you come up with a great idea and patent it, then get hit with a counter patent suit by a giant telecom, and the giant telecom simply presents their patent is hidden and protected under national security laws, and the hearing ends with you haing no defense. See national security and trade secret laws. See what the giant telecom did during warrantless wiretapping, and how it's affiliated with a certain fruit named tech company and how all those anti-copyright, pro-creative people own that company's products. Also covered on /.

Or what happened down the road from me. There was a building that had been for sale for years. Bunch of investors got together, put up a bid (say $6 million). The county then, upon learning the building would be sold, decided they wanted the building instead and came up with a higher, counter bid (say $7 million). The investors scrapped together more money, and outbid the county and another group of investors that came in late (final cost $11 million). They up'd their bid thinking while it was a high price, down the road, because of the decrease in available city land, the building (one of the larger in the city) as well as the plot itself would increase substantially in value.

What did the county do? Took the building over anyways, under right of eminant domain. Assessment value? $5 million. How's that for government intrusion. Butting in. Taking people's money. Spite.

And what did I hear on the street, from people? "Good for the city." They turned it into a police station.

A couple of years later, a $100million+ hotel/convention complex is built in the city. Now you know why they took the building; saved the city time, effort, and costs, while screwing real estate prices short-term (who will buy property in the city after learning of that fiasco) so the market temporarily plunged while the city bought up properties to be included in the complex.

Now that mentality of taking from people has crossed over into copyright. After all, why do you think there has been such an effort the past few decades to change the violation from "copyright" and "infringement" into "intellectual property" and "pirating"--because they want to make copyright seem like physical property.

Alright,n ow explain to me. What exactly do you mean by shitty subs? As far as I know is Viz accurate with their translations, it is a professional company after all. Now, if you can backup your claim, I'll accept it.

i think she means that they are mainly not correct.....
When you are translating a language you cant just do a streight translation you need to go deeper into it and make sure that what you are writing makes sence.....

some of the subbing does not make sence. from my own japanise translations altho i am a beginer even i would translate them differently.
Some parts of it are just too long winded i mean its all prevailing to use big words and all.... but some times they are just not needed...
this is how alot of people translare engish and chinese when i was a teacher over their for 4 years (oral english only to kindergarten) but from watching the other teachers and my chinese assistant teachers they are always the first to grab the crappy electronic dictionary with Thesaurs and choose the biggest word in the hope that it will make it better.......

and as a few posts before you wanted some evidence so here u are

From those images... The image quality appear to be exactly the same. The non-streamed one is just zoomed out which makes it appear to be more crisp. Try zooming in and you'll have the exact same picture.

Translation-wise. Viz has a history of using passive tense in their sentence structure. I don't blame them as the target demographic was originally young boys.

Conclusion: Your "evidence" is purely subjective. Go away fanboy.

Let me summarize what Doonster is trying to say: its called localization.

The subs that Viz uses are not words that common people use in their normal conversations...

Also, like the previous poster has mentioned... "Tier Halibel" is just too oblivious.......

That and Viz simply uses too many words to get the point across.
