Hi folks! Been busy so doing new topics or being on the forums has been minimal and June will be the same for me. I thought I'd return to a topic I did a bit ago on the upcoming summer movies but focus on the particular rise again of the sequels. Now this is not specifically to say what movie sequels you'll see but more of a discussion on whether with this cyclical cycle for sequels on the rising part again, is this too much? I read articles where Hollywood has to be safe during the big summer blockbuster times so there are less new movies and more sequels. Is this a good thing? When do series hit too many parts? Do you go because it's a sequel to a series you're following and why?

Personally I like some sequels BUT going too long, just like an anime or TV show, can be a juggling contest. Too little or too much? Every series hits this and is pressured to make more if the cash flows. I personally prefer those movies that know how far they will go roughly and not just tack on sequels for the sake of money making as it tends to water down a good series. Also I'm not a fan of the multiple sequels in short spans like Pirates of the Carribean, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Don't get me wrong, I either watch them or know they are good, but I would rather not rush if possible (hence why Harry Potter is in such a situation due to the age of the actors).

To finish I'll just list here the sequels coming out or have come out this year to give you an idea of what I'm talking about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_2007_films (excuse if I miss a sequel, as there are many, and I roughly keep to North American releases for this case that will likely be in theatres, so no Direct to video/DVD or TV movies if I can avoid it):

This is slightly off-topic maybe, but apparently Shrek will be a 5 part series before it's over.

And then scroll down...

According to an interview with Antonio Banderas, a fifth Shrek movie is in the works, as well as a spin-off movie featuring Puss in Boots entitled Puss in Boots: The Story of an Ogre Killer.

Too much Seuquels is not good to a certain extent. Maybe for anime, long episodes may meant that one will be harder to reach ending with the faster the speed of the company getting it licensed. But for movies, it is hard to get it, and it will be costly to pay for more money as sequels of the show increases. Therefore, I would've felt that it is better for the director to complete a movie in max 1 sequel for maximum enjoyment of finale and saving of money~

You kinda expected 7 movies for Harry Potter (ever read the books???)
Pirates (can you blame them for making sequels??)
Sin City 2 (haven't seen but definitely will; loved first film)
Resident Evil series (they keep getting better imho)

The other's on the list not really worth mentioning. Saw 28 days later but tuned out after 5 minutes lol.

i don't think it's bad to have sequels, it's just that most of the time, the original one's are way better than the sequel.... that way sequels become boring and unpleasant,,, i think if they are making sequels they should make it better than the first one..
