I was probably delerious though with all the drugs keeping me asleep. I had similar experiences in ICU lol, yeah its just the drugs. You can still see some things while under the sedation and hear things, but your mind doesn't process it properly so when you are woken up from the coma it feels like a dream. I could hear my parents talking by my bed but I couldn't see or move, sometimes the drugs wear off so nurses have to come back and put more propofol in your drip to send you back to sleep. lol its so weird! When I woke up I was like chocking on that tube they put down your throat without any idea if what I saw was real or not in the past 3-4 days of unconsciousness |

There are theories that the brain puts on a show for you, when it feels like death is approaching, as some sort of coping mechanism. Something like that.

^^^ I was just thinking about this, especially about the coping mechanism part. The only thing I can't figure is, what is the evolutionary benefit of this type of coping mechanism?
Ah well, perhaps it's not even worth speculating, because it's sort of like dreams...there is really no way to say, "No, you were REALLY dreaming this" to another person. Or at least not yet. Maybe there will be a dream and near-death vision-o-meter some time after our cyberbrains are installed. |

I don't really believe in it. Once a person's sinus rhythm turns asystole, it's almost impossible to bring them back.
In movies, you'll see doctors rushing in to use AED or synchronized electrical cardioversion but in real life, once they're gone, they're gone. It could happen, but I highly doubt it will. Although, if a life is saved, who cares? |

When you are near death your brain will send out powerful endorphins to block pain and ease the shock. This is the most likely cause of near death hallucinations.
I have never had a near death hallucination, but I have hallucinated that I was near death |
