Let's stop pretending otherwise, 90% of the time this forum is a battleground for the god-baiters and the bible thumpers.

Let's call a spade a spade.

The spade looks pretty black to me. It sure as Hell isn't heart-shaped.

I say we should just call ED "The Society for Christian Indignation Against Heathen Modernist Reasoning."

Works for me. or
"Atheist Fanatic Forum (we won't change our minds and can't change the subject)"

Either way I'd like to see a REAL "Extended Discussion" forum started after wards so I can say "A pox on both your houses" and talk about what really interests me.

Theology is a topic that can be easily discussed upon. The believers have the text. The atheists have their belief "seeing is believing". With the exception of your own existence, everything can be counted as a belief. In its very base, Theology is a battle of beliefs, not of reasoning.
After all, how can someone comprehend your reasoning if they do not share your belief?
.
Topics such as revenge, however, will contain common beliefs, and rooted out of those beliefs are reasoning in which people can debate upon.
To be more clear: I would rather argue with an agnostic( such as myself) about God than a Christian.

How boring. They might as well create a seperate forum all together, but we all know how bad that'll turn out.

kinda where i was going with that. also I'd like to talk politics or history a least a little bit without it coming back Evolution, Geology, and the flying spaghetti monster. (even if I do see his Noodley Appendage in all things)

Ha, caught me.
I can't argue the truth of that. which makes me wonder why I really posted this.

You should know perfectly why it turned out like this, when religious individuals believe that their opinions based on superstitions are their "freedom of expression", while they often ignore the fact that superstitions are simply wrong when reality had proven otherwise. No matter how they're only entitled to their claims.

Maybe the problem is that politics, and to some extent history, are a bit exclusive?

With a theological debate, anyone from any country and with any religious beliefs (or none at all) can join in. A discussion about Obama's healthcare plans (as an example) would be of little to no interest to most members beyond the USA.

There are other topics that could be covered, but they might need indepth knowledge to do them justice, such as discussions on cutting-edge science.

Of course, if you want to see more political and historical debates, you could always create the posts yourself

sigh...

I did try (they were my first two threads EVER this is my third)

Unfortunately there were two problems.

1) I'd forgotten the 'no polls' rule of ED.... so they got moved.
2) at least one of them (just before it got moved) received posts by the god - baiters that I deemed aimed more at the bible thumpers than having a serious discussion. They took exception to my request that they keep their religious war of words to the other gazilion thread they'd already turned into a battleground.

Threads are dead.
