Orihime doesn't know or understand her power. She see Rukia as an older sister that she always wishes she had. Orihime also sees Rukia as a rival and a beloved mother figure.
I'm really sorry that the writers haven't explored her character or her power more.
I really like them both for different reasons.

I don't mind Inoue. She's a nice girl and everything. But I always liked Rukia slightly better because she's different from other anime character females. She's strong, has a really cool zanpakutou and I like the way she can cheer up Ichigo.
I like them both though. |
