Because everyone is busy discussing the finesse of Theology, either trying to prove the other a heretic bound for hell lest he repent or an narrow-minded believer of fairy-tales, I am going to assume that this is going to be the first post with real world relevance. What solutions can be applied to our current population crisis, wherein the human population is currently living beyond its mean and continues to grow, lest we face a Malthusian apocalypse?

Earth can support like another billion or 2 people. Easy. Resources like trees grow back, and C02 isn't an issue, Plants take care of it, Water wont be an issue either, Ocean is full if it. Earth has tons of undeveloped land that could be developed and used to support more people.

Oil based and fueled solutions keep the malthusian issue at bay for ... how many years?

but once peak oil hits we'll all be forced to go back to 'organic farming' and find out what that really means.

(basically Malthus arrives with a couple of generations of compound interest)

Of course we -might- run out of tungsten or platinum first.

or maybe someone with the first airborne latest-antibiotic-resistant Ebola (or Anthrax pick a bug) will be boarding a plane for an international airport soon.

----

In short. We're screwed. Enjoy the party and hope last call comes after you're dead. (Though I suppose if we go the green house+Methane Hydrate = Flourine sky route. It would be pretty neat to see a green sky before i die)

There's around 7 billion people right not, another billion or 2 is no big deal, We could just develop earth into an ecumenopolis lol. Earth probably will become one anyway, once faster than light travel allows us to harvest resources from planets in other star systems, hell probably before that lol, we will harvest the vast natural resources of the other planets and moons in our own solar system first.

Well if we can break out of the gravity well in a meaningful way... the whole equation changes. and endless void in which to dump our shit. a perfect site for our heavy industry. harness a nickle -iron asteroid and we're good on metals for centuries....

realistically though I think we've run out of time. Peak Oil is upon us. Other minerals are running out or just getting ridcoulously harder to retrieve. and bugs are evolving faster than we can make the new magic potions that began with sulfa drugs.

And for all we know, it's already too late to stop the methyl hydrate in the ice caps from bubbling out and altering our atmosphere.

Nope. Planet Cracking will be a huge multi trillion dollar industry in the future.

Assuming we even get as far as harnessing near earth asteriods....

Given that right now all we've got is an aging orbiting winnebago...

I don't have a lot of hope.

Space is the answer for nuclear waste lol, just launch it into the sun. Any problem can be solved by firing it into the sun.

As for the methane hydrates, they caused The Great Dying of 250 Million Years ago, they were released by the global warming that was caused by the formation of the siberian traps, which in turn were caused by an asteroid impacting on the opposite side of the earth.

The Great Dying killed like 99.99% of all animal life, both marine and land based.

Nah, we definitely will, might not happen in my life time, by by my grandkids life time, the CEO's of the Plant Cracking businesses will be trillionaires at least. Humans are like cockroaches, we can survive anything.

We're going to run out of resources since we aren't very focused on creating renewable ones.

Nuclear Power ? There's enough nuclear fuel on earth to power it for 100 million years. Limitless energy for 100 million years.
