Most of you say "no" right now, but when it comes down to the moment, we will automatically shut off our logic and resort to primal instincts. What you may find disgusting or impossible to do now, will just be a normal thing when you're pushed over the edge. Think of cannibalism, you would say "no, thats disgusting" right now, but when you're pushed to your limit, you will eat others, do anything, in order to stay alive.

Now, getting on topic, I think I can handle a week of homelessness, it'll just be hard. Can I wave my dick at traffic? I've always wanted to do that, but as a homeless person all police will say is "He's homeless, he doesn't know better" and I just get a slap on the wrist ^^

A day or two I could probably manage but a week would stretch my patience.

Do you think you can live on the the streets like the homeless ?

With no money, ipods, food, etc.

All you have is the regular everyday clothes you wear, a piece of cardboard, a marker, and a blanket.

You really have to consider where you live at the moment.

I personally don't know if I can make a week being homeless.

But I'd like to try one day just to know what's it like.

I feel the same way. Just to see if I can hack it living a harsh life.

I wouldn't use a sign... it's too embarrassing! I hate it when it comes to staring.

I'd just be one of those very independent homeless peoples... I wouldn't even buy fast food! Probably scrounge around for scraps or something, then hide in an alley and sleep with newspaper as a blanket...

Probably wouldn't make a week. I get hungry pretty easily. xD

During my most recent year in University, a group of students including myself had to be homeless for 5 days, and we could only live off of whatever change we got. If a student stayed all 5 days, the University donated $1250 to Red Cross and gave an $800 dollar scholarship to that student. It goes without saying that I lost a fair bit of weight.

You know... I am living in San Francisco where homeless are too close to home. It's unfortunate that those people have rough life, but you do not give money to them. Those folks use money to buy drugs and alcohol instead of getting back on their feet. Back 5-6 years ago, S.F. used to give away $500 per month to a homeless person. It made things worse because more out-of-town homeless came to the city for free money and existing homeless didn't improve their lives at all.

I shouldn't be labeling homeless in a negative light, but there are right and wrong ways to help homeless. Giving money is just a way to avoid the problem instead of facing it. It's better to show compassion by helping them with food, shelter, and clothes. If your local charity or church is doing something to help homeless, it's better to give your time for volunteer work or donate unwanted clothing and household items. Also, you can refer them to local employment agency, free mental clinic, or training facility so that they could get back on their feet.
