same for me, loved the anime the story, the humor, no kiss as usual but the ending although not expected didn't quite made sense for me,

- ok i'll buy the you don't go there right after you die, but that means that Kanade did? and she got the heart and still died anyway?? and then came back to life? was she in a coma or what? did'nt really understand what happened there and when they left? rebirth? new life? heaven? any comments guys?

Not really sure about how Kanade came first even though Otonashi died first, but I believe after they fulfilled whatever regret they had they were brought back to life and whatever killed them never happened basically. But the memories they had in the afterlife they kept. So like how Hinata was saying to Yui even if the chances of them meeting up were 1 in 6 billion he'd still find her somehow. So I guess they are either brought back to the point before they died, but whatever killed them doesn't happen or they're reincarnated with their memories. I know they keep their memories for sure though otherwise Otonashi wouldn't have recognized the beat from my song as Kanade was humming it.

This is one of my favorite anime..
My fave person is Naoi, Iwasawa, Hinata..
I cried when Naoi was gone.. TT_TT
It wasn't that sad. But, because i like him, i'm touched..
And Kanade & Otonashi's part is sad too..

I cried for (kinda) a long time..
I hid it from my mom, because if she knows, she thinks maybe i'm sad or anything..
And just to let you guys know, i'm a realy sensitive kind of person...

*When Iwasawa was gone too, that's realy sad too..
She's reach what she always wanted to do..

Otonashi's 2nd chance at life was essentially a memory, he didn't actually come back to life, he was re-living the past. If you think about it as a sea of souls and purgatory as an island, every once in a while, people wash up on the shore, at different times.

Kanade and Otonashi didn't retain their memories from either their previous lives or purgatory. Otonashi didn't remember the tune, it seemed familiar to him. He ran after her because it was a soul connection. That meeting probably set off those 2 dating and starting a new life together.

We don't know when Otonashi finally departed the school after Kanade. If you notice, they were standing near the steps going to the field. When you see the final scene with the bright star leaving, it's off and over to the side, near a dormitory building. Looks like that was Otonashi IMO.

We will never know what actually happens after death. If it's rebirth, reincarnation, 2nd chance at life, heaven, etc... or if nothing happens and you simply disappear... Great show, perfect length, good job

i think that what happened was, otanashi donated his heart, which was given to kanade... she lived a life which sent her to that place.... after being their awhile with no memories..(meanwhile fighting with yuripe who had the wrong idea)... i belive she started remembering after awhile, what her goal was...... "thank the donor who gave her life"... then later otanashi stumbled into the world with no memories and was maybe sent to help her go onto the next life... perhaps god "gift"

just a thought dont blow me up:)

I love this anime,it was one of the most touching animes I've watch.Honestly i cried my eyes out when everyone parted ways and especially when otanashi and kaede did.I'm glad it showed the clip at the end of them finding each other,I was satisfied with the ending but I wish I could see what happens in the next stage or level of their afterlife.

did any of you see the episode "Another Epilogue" any thoughts on that? I think that when Kanade left Yuzuru stayed for a bit. Then someone helped him pass on and when he did he met Kanade again after hearing her hum the sound from "My Song". What do you guys think? He sat there in the student council room all boss like with flowers next to him which Kanade tended to when she was still there. You can even see pictures of some of the characters that were in the world with him on the board.

Well to revive the topic...

I finished this Anime just few days ago, really can't believe I haven't watched it before, but I am glad I did at least now. It was so beautiful.

I hate when I connect with characters, and they all say goodbye like that and then disappear knowing they will not remember any of the friends they made in after-life world. Also Yuzuru nad Kanade scene, damn I was so sad, then so happy when I saw that they found each other in the second (or who knows which life, since you can't remember when you reincarnate). Yet, knowing that they met doesn't make me happier. They still don't have memories (although they will make new ones), and they don't meet other friends they had. And one more thing, I want more, I just can't believe it is finished. It is CG all over again.

And for some who will say that they remember, no they don't, have you ever heard of Déjà vu.

I just really hope they make something about their next life, at least picture drama, just to have some closure, so I can go to bed happy instead of sad.

So before that happens I will write my own fanfic, they will have new adventures, they will all meet in their next life as a students in the same school. New adventures will be about real life problems, and ending will be about pairings getting married (Hinata x Yui, Otonashi x Kanade and so on.)

I even thought about making them remember everything, but that would actually ruin original Idea, and mine two. What is the point of new life if you remember previous one.
