Personally I have more guy friends than girls.
Why?

Mostly guys are more straightforward.
Most guys play video games (i love video games).
Guys don't care as much the way the dress (some do but not as much as girls do).
Guys don't bitch about each other.

They are in general more fun to hang out with than girls.

That's just my 2 cents~ : P

My guy friends are different kind of people than my girl friends. I like having friends of both genders because they both have their own atmospheres when hanging out in a group. Plus sometimes you just need to escape boy issues and sometimes you need to escape girl issues. I do hang out with guys more often though, because I'm kinda tomboyish. Mostly play video games and hang out on the computer. And they're all really chill. I feel more at ease with them.

I only share my emotions with a few select guy friends. This is mostly because I make guy friends a lot easier than I do the female ones. And they allow me to 'psycho babble' without too much comment.

It's easier to talk to guys than to girls without getting in to the drama. Boys are direct to the point and can tell you where you did wrong or if the guy is a jerk. If you want to know what a guy thinks - ask a guy.

Ive seen this over and over again. The number one resaon people get "friend zoned" male or female is because the other person always sees you as sort of a "back up". They know you will always be there. The quickest way out of this situation is to show the person that you have other options, invite them to group situations with multiple people of both genders, and spend equal time with each of them, and give each of them the same ammount of your attention.
have you ever noticed in harem animes the main character gets increasingly popular with the greater number of people in the group? (Best example ive ever seen of this was <Sekiri>)
You also want to use as much non-sexual contact as possible.
