I don't mean to rip on Crunchyroll all that much by bringing this up, but it's left as an inevitability. Upon logging on I was barraged with the advertisement for Dungeons and Dragons Unlimited. Wasn't it part of the deal for a paying member to not be bombarded with advertisements? That's half the reason I decided to support this site.

Ah yes, they only promised no video ads for the videos in your section. (Your an anime member, so that means the anime section.)

They never promised no ads. They just implied it and mislead you a bit.

To get the no ads option you need an "All-Access" membership. This costs twice as much. Also make sure you read the fine print because "Advertisements: None" doesn't actually mean none. It means none except for "direct sponsorships" which can take the form of "front page takeovers" and "integrated promotions." Which really means only the advertisements they get paid more for or feel like forcing on you.

They might also send you spammy email messages.

Yeah, Crunchyroll is getting pretty sleezy with the advertising. They've been changing the deal as much as they can without technically breaking it. I myself have cancelled my subscription, for now at least. I'll have to see if I'm feeling less annoyed/angry with them next week.

Edit: I tried the All-Access membership trial... That DDO ad counts as one of the "direct sponsorships" and so you are still subjected to it. Yes even if you get the more expensive membership that has "Advertisements: None" listed as a feature. Don't waste your money!

I think this is the agreement for the ads in premium member's case

The video you are watching and also in the forum you are posting won't have ads. The main page ads is not part of the deal

(that's just my guess)

Yes, that is the case now. The issue being that they are putting increasingly annoying and intrusive ads up in the places where they've left themselves exceptions. They've left some very big exceptions.

Over react much? I'm a paying member as well and really do not find it all that annoying. If you really want to block all ads. Get firefox. Get no script, Grease monkey, and Adblocker + and go to town. Youll never see an ad again on any page. Problem solved. I've also never been spamed once by them at all! Also the email is opt out if you want. Just go into your settings.

It not liek that have annoying pop up ads or those stupid floating ads or adwords. I Think you misunderstood the TOS when you bought your subscription.

It sounds like from another thread that the advertisement opening up and barraging you with sound and video is a bug.

Two points:
1. this bug is introduced due to them trying to make more money at all of their customers expense. Now the amount an advertisement hurts you is normally arguably pretty inconsequential however there is a tendency to push that farther and farther as people become more accustomed to being bombarded. Complaining is a good way to make companies think before pushing more advertisements on their paying customers. I wouldn't complain if I hadn't been paying. There has been a trend of increasingly invasive advertisements on this site.

2. What does it hurt you if I or others complain? If anything it benefits you. Do you have such an excess of free time that you must audit every forum topic to make sure it doesn't somehow harm your sensibilities? That's a strange sensibility there. "Don't complain or question anything, they know whats best for you."

Also on the email thing - if I've been a paying customer for over a year, its quite annoying to suddenly start receiving a bunch of "Shinji's Deal of the Day" emails. Sure I can unsubscribe but wasting my time to hunt down the button, but I didn't choose to opt in and I had never received them before. I don't appreciate being automatically opted in for additional spam by a service for which I pay. I want to make it clear to the company that this behavior is not cool. How better to do this than to tell them, to complain.
