I greatly respect Brian Konietzko's and Michael DiMartino's capacity to create a phenomenally entertaining series on Nickelodeon in Avatar the Last Airbender. In contrast; M. Night's result in the live action version falls flat. The potential this movie could have achieved, but did not, leaves me with a disappointment that is palatable.

Where was the sense of adventure, the friendships between the main characters and their animal buddies? Where was the humor? Not one smart remark did Sokka make. And consistently puzzling was the deviation from the series pronunciation of Aang and Sokka...

There has been a lot of comments in the media about the "whitewashing" of the cast. I agree this is true for the main characters of Aang, Katara, and Sokka. Most of the remaining main or supporting cast were of the same background as Shamalan's.

I haven't seen it and I don't really want to. The only reason I'd watch it is because I have a small crush on Dev Patel because of Slumdog Millionaire and I want to see how he does in this film.

It sucked like I knew it would. I didn't have to go see it either.

I'm not even going to bother seeing this, plus it's been getting very bad reviews. I had a feeling it was going to be dumb, M. Night really screwed himself.

I liked M. Night Shyamalan when he made stuff "The Sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable", the downhill slide started with "Signs", which I felt was rather slow going. Now I have a feeling this movie is going to haunt him for a long time. As the the reviews, my local paper gave it a D, and from what I've read on the internet, that was one of the kinder reviews its gotten, lol!

*frothy mouth* IT WAS TERRIBLE story-wise!! (of course, visually it was amazing but that just doesn't cut it.) Zuko's back story was altered, where the heck was Suki and the other Kiyoshi warriors, and the final battle was WEAK!! What happened to the giant Avatar-state water monster Aang used to crush the fire benders in the finale to Book One? Well it turned into Aang raising a giant ocean wave that did no visible damage to any of the fire nation ships and then everyone bows down to him after that. LAME!

Fire nation people were given knowledge of things that they really shouldn't have known just so their dialogues could fill in the storyline gaps that Shyamalan's amateurish screenwriting created.

I wish someone else was given the privilege to live-action this beloved series. Me and my friend left the theater in a massively underwhelmed, belligerent stupor.

Well, I see it as a trend. Blood, Dragonball, Streetfighter, now Avatar TLAB. Taking animated series and creating live action is a weak effort, and just shows how movies are going downhill. A-Team, Hawaii 5-0, the marvel remakes, dc remakes, even Evangelion has done it. people are just running out of ideas, which I believe is going to resort to more anime remakes. (unfortunately) Most of them will suck, especially the ones produced by America. First off we just don't get it, just because you got some fight choreographer and some special effects wont save any of them. This is just my opinion. Remakes suck especially NickJR crap.

I think you're right, either they're running out of ideas or they're just not going with creative ones because the top execs don't think it will make any money. When George Lucas first presented his idea for Star Wars, every single Hollywood studio turned him down except for 20th Century Fox.

the lacking i think dealt with the dialogue & a lot of the criticism could have been addressed if it was an hour longer
