I have always thought that I could be doing so much more with my life if I did'nt sleep for 6-8 hours a day. I thought of all the books I could read and all the knowledge I would gain. I was discussing this with one of my friends at work and he told me about polyphasic sleeping. Basically polyphasic sleeping is when you only sleep around three hours a day because you can go directly into REM sleeping(Which is a deep sleep that takes a person that sleeps the standard eight hours straight about two hours to reach). Anyway for every three hours you are awake you sleep twenty to thirty minutes(its up to you wether its twenty, thirty or even lower). I will be sleeping thrity minutes every three hours to start which means I will sleep only four hours a day. Then after I get use to that I will begin lowering my sleep time. The first two weeks though you are very difficult, but once you get past that hump you feel well rested according to all the people that do this online. Eventually your body will allow itself to go directly into REM sleep and you will begin to feel well rested after these power naps.

Well that about sums up polyphasic sleeping. Like I said in the first paragraph I will start polyphasic sleeping. In fact today is the day that I am beginning. So I will keep everyone informed on my progress and wish me luck. Also let me know what you think about polyphasic sleeping and if you have any question please ask. Thanks!!!

That actually sounds pretty cool. I'm really into taking naps and taking it to the level of "power naps" seems really interesting.
I would do more research about it though and probably start when school begins. It's my summer vacation now and can take all the naps I want. >:D

--------

Read the time schedule on wiki, If I were to do this during school it would actually be doable if I tried real hard. I'm in school around 6 to 7 hours and that doesn't count the time I get ready for school. But it's doable because it takes me approximately 30 to 40 minutes to get to and from school since my place isn't in the city. Plus I would have my 1 hour lunch break so squeezing some 20 to 30 minute nap time sounds okay. Some other web pages said that adjusting to this kind of sleeping style will be really hard on the body during the first week or so, but we'll see. School can be tough, I remember having to do all those all-nighters during freshman year, so having this kind of schedule would maybe be helpful.

Well I had the same problem. It took me about 2 hours of lying in bed to fall asleep, but when you do this you eventually learn to fall asleep within the first five minutes. It only took me less than a day to do that.

I wouldn't try it. Doesn't seem to be worth it all. I love sleeping too much.

It is working out very well so far. The first 18 hours can be compared to the three day hump when quiting cigs. I have alread read a whole book and I am already starting to get use to sleeping only 30 minutes at a time. It is so wierd having all of this free time and at the same time it is amazing. I am really glad I started doing this. Well I will keep you all updated because it is only 36 hours in.

Sounds like an interesting project, but I heard it can distort your natural perception of time and mess with your overall focus. Either way good luck with that.
