probably because it's like an asian past-time or whatever
take the China crickets for example, it's been around for hundreds of years(unless that dynasty was recent <__<;; ). and it's not just one or two randomly bored people in one nation, it's actually almost the whole nation enjoying the bug fights

or atleast a good fraction of it

when i was in the philippines, all the kids had spider fights when the season was right.. and even the adults. who were more extreme.. they'd feed the spiders milk and stuff to make it stronger.. it was like a science to them

I couldn't even watch that whole video cause it gave me a headache after the first few seconds!

Personally I don't like bugs, the reason is simple.. cause I'm afraid of them.. I mean not all of them.. but most of them!

But that doesn't mean I'd like to see them die in fights like that. Cause if it happens in their natural habitats it's acceptable. But this is something beyond natural, where people sell them and bet on them and make them fight for their sole amusement. So whether it's legal or not, I don't know.. to me it's not acceptable.

Anyway I don't know whether bugs have rights or not but all I know is they belong to nature and that's where they ought to be.. and obviously not inside hotels!

And isn't it rather gross to watch them fight like that? Gosh.. humans these days have such a variety of eccentric pastimes.. honestly I feel sorry for the bugs.

Yeah I guess so. But when having spider fights, if its on sticks like mentioned in the first post, how do they keep the spiders on the sticks and how do they keep them under control. How big are the spiders anyway. Personllay though, I'm really freaked out by bugs ^^;

It's also very educational. I saw some bugs in there that I never seen in my life. Watch video 7 and you see the blue lobster thing. THATS a bug? Wow, interesting stuff.

They should also have group battles. Oh god...I love it.

it's a really skinny "stick", so it's not so hard to handle it. the bigger the stick, the harder it is for the spiders to find each other and for the holder to focus on the spiders so that he/she don't get bit

to keep them on the stick, you grab the thread(web) the spider is on. if the spider is trying to go down, grab the thread and pull him back to the stick. if the spider is going the opposite way, rotate the stick so that one of the spider falls(he'll be on a thread so it's more like the spider glides down on top of the spider) on the other end of the stick with the other spider..

sigh, i sound like a master at this ^__^;;

Haha yeah you do.You should get into it then, try doing it wherever you live ,and start spreading it everywhere. That'll be a disaster! Everyone will be fighting with bugs and computers will go out of use.=O
But training bugs to fight seems like alot of free time, its like building those robots to fight in those old robot fighting shows, (I'm not sure if they still have those haven't seen one for years)

Oh, I've seen some of those on ancient Chinese shows.

This is what I like:

"A cricket coffin for a prized fighting cricket on display at the Museum of Macao."

Only the most bas-ass crickets are rewarded with their own funeral including a coffin. (And while they're alive, a new female cricket every day.)

It kinda gives me a gross feeling watching huge bugs fight to the death. I don't think I like it. And most of those bugs are pretty ugly. I think some of the parings were unfair, and from what I saw, it seems like the mantises are pretty weak. It's interesting, and I don't see anything wrong with it. It's just to nasty for me to enjoy.
