actually you nailed it. Though rank is not the only factor in who you take orders from. There's a concept called the chain of command. Shirley was in charge of the mission so both Luccini and Miyafugi equally had to listen to Yeager.

Episode 5 makes me want to hug Lucchini now >:O But what does Ensign mean?....is that her rank?....or is that like a middle name or something? if its her rank she seems to be the only one that is that rank

Many militaries and branches of militaries use different ranks for the same pay grade.

A Rear Admiral and a Lt. General are roughly the same rank.

My own country flirted with a 'unified force' concept for about thirty years then went back to 'environmental uniforms'. However the number of stripes on an NCO's sleave remained the same. So when I served I had to remember that while my own two striper was a corporal. His buddy in the Artillary was a 'Bombardier', while the Navy called the same rank a 'leading seaman'

In the Canadian infantry we have only one rank that's actually called 'sargeant' (the rest are various grades of corporal or warrant officer)

In the American Army almost every non-commissioned officer is some 'class' or 'grade' of sargeant ( 3rd, 2nd, 1st class, Master, -major)

Ensign, is the usual naval equivalent of an army 2nd lieutennant. some Air Forces call the same pay grade 'pilot officer', others use the ranks of a 'parent' service -- (Ie the US Army Air Corps used Army Ranks)

This suggests perhaps that Luccini is a Naval Aviator.

Wikipedia gives a good quick summary: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_rank

I gotta say episode 7 of the 2nd season made me smile. Was better than the season 1 versions of the panty episode. And the finishing blow to the Neuroi this time made me laugh

Given that in episode 1, this magic circle...

...caused one of the men to remark, "S-Such strong magic power...", I wonder what his reaction would have been to this one:

To give a better sense of scale, the Yamato was 263 meters (just shy of 863 feet) long.

I was very excited at that point, and becaus my favorite soundtrack in the anime started to play :D

Actually, ANN lists it as having 13 episodes, rather than the 12 of the first series, so we have 5 to go.

FYI, titles for episodes 9 & 10 are listed as "A Bridge to Tomorrow", and "500 Overs", respectively.

Episode 8 was cool. So Im guessing that Miyafugi now has the largest magical capacity out of the entire Witches. I wonder if it would be appropriate to say she is the strongest one now too? Maybe behind Sakamoto or something. Im kinda having mixed feelings about Miyafugi becoming the strongest though.....I want the other characters to be able to show their fighting prowess and why they have their rank.

She may already be the strongest as the magic limiter is installed in all strike units and no one was capable of reaching that limit flying the original strike unit. That limiter was much higher on the prototype Miyafugi flew which takes into account her growing powers. She was barely breaking a sweat healing more than ten injured men.

Yea. Since she is the only one who has the newest Striker Unit.....I would make sense shes the strongest now

By this time in the first series, we had elements of the "end game" in play, but we do have 1 more episode this time.

I am starting to think they are counting on a third series, and may not be getting rid of the Neuroi threat this time.

Any bets on a unresolved or cliffhanger ending?

Wow....seeing Mio like that was definitely worth it. And I seriously doubt they would end the entire Neuroi saga over this season. I mean it just seems like a weird set up when you have 3/4 of an entire season basically be filler-related stuff. Like it might be from the manga but.....I mean 3/4 of the season was just the Strike Witches just being themselves. No actual plot besides kill any Neuroi on site.

Can you image if Perrine had been the one on the receiving end of that kiss?

Most of the first series was much the same way, but by this point, we started to see elements that played into the finale. I would expect some type of finale, even if it is concentrated into two episodes, but whether the Neuroi problem will be "resolved" to the extent it was in the first series is another matter.
