I only do nice things around nice people. Unfortunately that's 10% of the people around here and i don't care what happens to me after i die. While i'm alive i will not let a disease like religion to ever take over me.

Human beings possess conscience and are therefore inclined to take actions which generally benifit human beings. Some of these actions may benifit others besides the one who acts, and I am guessing, that is what you call acts of goodness. On the other hand, if the actions benifit only the person taking the actions, then it is immediately classified as an act of evil. In this case I don't believe faith is a prequisite for taking action.

The concept of believing in heaven and hell complies with a cold truth about the world, i.e, bad things happen to good people (people who perform acts of goodness) and they are taken advantage of by bad people (people who act only for the sake of themselves).

There are people around that are still alive only because it's against the law to kill people. I think that people may start out doing good things only because they want a god afterlife, but they become conditioned to do good things regardless of heaven or hell. However, many people do "good" things just because they want to get into heaven, but my opinion is that if they are doing it for the reward of their after life, then they don't even deserve the rweard of an afterlife.

My religion entails that every act we perform must be done so with the sole intention of pleasing the Creator and in the manner pleasing to the Creator. Any act which is inhumane and goes against the humanity (in the big picture) fall under acts of evil and everything else is a good deed.

It's always easier to do something good than something bad (the same doesn't apply for doing something great) since we all are born with conscience.

I think even without religion that it is an inate characteristic of us human beings to be kind to one another and do good things. Not to say that everyone does good deeds but I think its hard wired in us to do good and to help one another with similar or even unsimilar causes. All opinion though!

I don't have any particular attachment to a notion of an afterlife. I mean, sure, the thought and consideration crosses my mind, but I don't behave or modify my behavior with post-mortem expectations.

I simply don't like to see other people be miserable or unhappy. I'm well aware that I can't make other people happy, but I sure as hell am not going to intentionally do something that brings pain to another being. When faced with a number of choices, all of which might cause some suffering, then I aim for what I think is least damaging, and hope that I hit the mark.

Frankly, I would generally not trust someone who was ONLY good because they believed they will get an eventual reward for their good behavior.

Why?

Because that kind of person could very easily become extremely destructive if they ever became convinced that the unknown external power demanded that they do something unpleasant.
