does anyone know if Crunchyroll is trying to get the net rights to Strike Witches season 1?

Unlikely, as it is already licensed to Funimation, and has been for some time.

As you appear to be in the U.S., you can watch it on their site or on Hulu:
http://www.hulu.com/strike-witches?c=Animation-and-Cartoons

For anyone reading this that lives in Canada, you should still be able to watch it on Funimation's own site:
http://www4.funimation.com/video/?page=show&b=289

A bit of historical info: CR did have a simulcast license for the original series when it aired (and this was back before they went "legit"), but the streaming window was measured in hours.

They currently have both subs and dubs for all twelve episodes.

Odd that you would say they didn't have subs posted, as the past several times I had checked before this week, they only had dubs for the first 2 episodes, but had subs for all. In fact, that is typical for many series at Funimation (subs getting posted faster than dubs).

I decided to check out this show because they started simulcasting the second season. This show is messed. Is there some law in that world that says teenage girls aren't allowed to wear pants.

I think so.. I find it distracting from the parts of the anime I actually watch it for. but oh well.

In one episode Wolf-deitrich wears a full length cocktail dress (and actually I think it's one of the most attractive depictions). but other than that... everyone seems to run around skirtless and pantsless. even supporting characters in the background like the nurses at the local hospital.

... from an immersive inductive point of view. it makes no sense.

of course.. from an ecchi marketing point of view I guess it makes a lot of sense. probably saves them from having to draw quite so many 'cameraman is lying on the floor' scenes.

When I saw the first series, I had missed the first two episodes, and thought it had something to do with being able to jump into the striker units (although even then, I wondered why they didn't simply wear shorts). Later in the series, however, the truth became clear, and was driven home when I finally saw the first two episodes earlier this year.

I do remember seeing in the old mot poster topic a (likely fan-created) image of all of them wearing skirts with their uniforms, and certainly wish I could find it again.

I think this must have arose as an answer to "How to we have pantsu in every scene without making it so obvious"?

At least one doesn't have to worry about frequent panty flashes.

I do find it less distracting than Aika in that regard. I get frankly annoyed that people assume that pre-teen and teenage girls butts are all the the show has to offer or what I'm watching the show for. I'm more into the 'mecha-musume' I find the animal avatar manifestions cute. and I Just can't help laughing at the idea of all these well known macho fighter aces redrawn and re-imagined as cute girls. It makes me laugh. Those Japanese love taking liberties with history in ways that SHOW they have read then history they are abusing.

One thing that puzzles me. Why did they feel obliged to rename all the countries? I mean... Liberion? Carlsland? whaaaat?

This is why I`m watching it, I think it`s pretty awesome to watching 12-16 year old girls kick the enemies ass like that XD

Now see... Why couldn't they have done that?

the girls are flying exposed to the elements at fightercraft speeds. their outfits would not be defying physics to provide all the ecchi some slavering view could want.

also on a strictly esthetic level I find the inclusion of skirts/shorts more... 'balanced'. IMO go fully clothed or go with lingerie. the pantsless look isn't even really attractive.

When they fly, they will ofc use the panties, it`s for the aerodynamic benift ;D

No, what you saw in S2 is how it is in all of S1. Apparently no woman in SW world wears pants at all whether witch or not.

I think the pics I posted are a form of reverse eroticism. You see characters in a swimsuit or panties all the time you may get interested when seeing them actually wear clothes.

Hmm I was sure I had seen Sanya dressed like that in S1.
Got to watch S1 again XD
Shouldn`t take to long, last I rewatched it it took about 6 hours
