Dream High scheduled for winter premiere

Dream High is the name of a drama project that has been in the works for a while now, and after stalling a bit in the planning stages, it is finally now a go for KBS. The project drew some early buzz for the big names behind its production, namely Keyeast (Bae Yong-joon’s company), JYP Entertainment (Park Jin-young’s company), and CJ Media.

The drama takes place at an arts high school and features students pursuing dancing, singing, and acting. Not terribly unlike the university-based What’s Up or, to a lesser extent, The Musical. I wouldn’t say that all these dramas are copying each other because they’ve all been in planning for so long — and they’re hardly the first that take this theme — but I do think there’s something of a zeitgeist that has them all coming out in the same season. It’ll be interesting to see how they compare with each other.

According to the chief of KBS’s drama department, they decided in a meeting to air Dream High at the end of the year or early next year. Next up, they’ll be holding open auditions and heading into production. The drama plans to cast both actors and idol-group members, as well as new faces.

Taecyeon becomes the prodigy dancer for new drama, “Dream High”

2PM’s Taecyeon has been confirmed for the drama “Dream High“, and both fans as well as casual viewers from “Cinderella’s Sister” are demonstrating high enthusiasm for the choice.

Taecyeon will play the role of ‘Jin Gook‘, a prodigy in dancing yet a scoundrel in school. Although Jin Gook grew up rebelling against all school-related activities, Director Lee of ‘Kin Rin (Giraffe) Prep School’ encouraged his enrolment in the school. The rebel finds his hidden talent as a dancer in the artistic school, and dreams of becoming a world star. He’s also involved in a love story with ‘Hyemi’ (actress undisclosed), a bold and proud singer who deems herself as the second Jo Sumi, a Grammy-winning soprano.

Taecyeon’s acting in “Cinderella’s Sister” was praised far and wide for successfully portraying a man with an unrequited, yet unfaltering love. In this new work, he will showcase a similar devotion, but to dancing and demonstrating an adolescent’s hope.

Reportedly, Taecyeon and actor Kim Soo Hyun (SBS “Giant“) assisted each other with improving their performing and acting skills: Kim Soo Hyun adopted Taecyeon’s stage manners and performance, while Taecyeon received guidance on acting from Kim Soo Hyun. Kim Soo Hyun has been slotted to play ‘Song Sam Dong’, a rural dancer who’s as equally talented as Jin Gook.

Taecyeon stated, “I’m very excited at this new project. I’m especially happy that the drama is music-based and there are amazing seniors to guide me. I’ll give everything of myself to create a spectacular work”.

A spokesperson of “Dream High” disclosed to Newsen that, ”It is true that IU has been cast for the drama. The decision has been made but the contract has not yet been written up. It’s difficult to say what will happen since castings change even during script readings.”

He went on to state, “However, she has expressed a desire to become an all-around entertainer.”

KBS 2TV’s upcoming drama, “Dream High“, recently released its first official teaser!

Unfortunately, the teaser doesn’t contain any scenes, but it does tell you a brief story about the drama. The story goes:

“There is a school named ‘Girin Arts High School’ which only teaches students how to dance and sing. The director (Bae Yong Joon) and fellow teachers (Park Jin Young, Um Ki Joon, Lee Yoon Ji and Lee Byung Joon) operate the school. If the students are found to be lackadaisical and practicing in a lazy manner, the teachers may shoot fire from their mouths. There is also a secret… the majority of stars you see on TV are graduates of this school. For the upcoming year, 2011, there is a feeling that a group of special students might be entering into the school. … “Dream High” will broadcast its first episode on January 3rd, 2011.”
