Its strange, we can watch the most horrific things on TV but when we see it in person we can't deal with it.

I remember seeing a cat get run over and still being alive and suffering on the side of the road, I'm scarred for life. If I saw it on TV I'd be like "aww poor cat....moving on..." but I saw it in person and it was just horrific.

Its funny how distant you can feel from something just because there is a middleman... in this case the middleman being a television.

I think people think serial killers are interesting enough to make various series about..
Mainly because people want to know the stories behind them, i suppose.

I have no clue to be honest

Don't we have the highest serial killer rate in the world?

Is that so?

I don't know, that's why I asked, but I do know we have the highest crime rate.

I suppose it's for the same reason that Americans produce a lot of horror movies.
Maybe it's because it has a mix of suspense, action, wit, and even romance.
Or perhaps it's just because Americans are generally violent and bloody people.

It's not that we like serial killers, but like mystery. Many modern day shows that resolve around the genre set out small clues to allow the audience to find out who did it towards the end. Personally, my favorite show about killers is Criminal Minds

Most of the time they are not serial killers on television shows. If you knew what a serial killer was you would'nt have posted this topic or atleast would have said shows about murderers.

Serial Killer:
A person must kill at least three people to be considered a serial killer. A serial killer does'nt kill out of passion. A serial killer does'nt benefit from the killing. Most serial killers are driven by the sexual experience that they obtian when killing, eating or raping/killing another person.

Murderers:
Most T.V. series like CSI are contian mostly murderers, which are people that kill out of passion or to gain something(Usually money). A person in the mafia that kills many people is not considered a serial killer because he getting paid to do it. Another example is when a wife kills her husband to get his life insurance. Most T.V. shows only people killing one or maybe two people. Like I said before three is the magic number.

Anyways to respond to question about if America has the most serial killers? America has about 70% of the worlds serial killers. I know this because I have read many books on serial killers and what makes them they way the are. About 7/10 serial killers that I have read about in the world lived in America.

To make a T.V. series on serial killers would be very difficult. Serial killers are usually white males about 25-40 years old. About 8% of serial killers are cannibals, 80% rape their victims before or after death, 10% do it for the thrill and 2% other/combo of the first three. Most serial killers where either abused physically, verbally or sexually as a child.

EX: Henry Lee Lucas
He was raised by his mother who was a prostitute. She made him and his legless father watch her perform sexual acts on others. Then one day his father crawled outside in the snow and frooze to death so he could be "free". His son was left alone with his mother who dressed him as a woman forced him to go to school like that. He eventually started to kill animals and killed his first person at age 15. When he got older he met a man with the same love for killing as his own (Ottis Toole). Ottis Toole loved to crusify his victims and then barbecue them. Henry loved to kill his victims and then have sex with their dead bodies. Together they killed over 300 victims along interstate 35. When they were caught reporters were allowed to interview them. They asked why Henry did'nt join Ottis in his unholy feast. Henry replied "I don't like barbecue sauce".

That is a serial killer. Now do you see the difference between the shows on T.V, and them?

The reason is because we are the most violent group brought up in this type of civilized times. We laugh at death and misfortune and constantly want to see others enduring it so we feel better about ourselves. Its just like why alot of the people did drugs in the hippy era, keeping with the times.
