news from The Escapist forums about Final Fantasy 13

Fan Demand Could Produce Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy Pack
Square Enix isn't averse to collecting all three FFXIII games if fans really want it.

Once the action-oriented Lightning Returns is finished, Final Fantasy XIII will exist as a bona fide trilogy (we hear those are all the rage these days). The bad news is that by time all is said and done, the three FFXIII installments will be separated by four years or so. In terms of tracking down videogames, that can be a long time. Enter the "trilogy pack," which collects all three games for a reduced price. Will FFXIII get one? According to Square Enix, the answer is a resounding "maybe," if fans really, really want it.

First things first: If Final Fantasy XIII does get the trilogy treatment, it won't be until well after the release of its final installment. "We are currently devoting all of our efforts to Lightning Returns," says Motomu Toriyama, the game's director. "Although we would certainly like to give it some consideration - if there were a big enough demand from the fans." Toriyama did not specify exactly how Square Enix would catalog fan demand, although the standard channels would probably apply: online forums, e-mail, petitions, social media, carrier pigeon, or however else folks choose to get in touch with game developers.

The first obvious question here is, "Who needs a Final Fantasy XIII trilogy pack?" The drop-off of people who bought the first game to the second was steep, and many hardcore series fans are inclined to buy each game at the time of release. Of course, if Toriyama really wants to gauge fan interest in such a project, he might just let a hint drop into the games journalism sphere and watch the reaction. Just saying.

My response to this?

I...honestly don't care to much.
Final Fantasy has kinda been deviating from it's roots for one, and trying to make things more flashy and filled with cinematics.

I'd rather see more of what we had in older games.

Sad fact, Dissidia was the last Final Fantasy I enjoyed.... Why Sakaguchi why?
(I know he didn't have anything to do with Dissidia except the awesome backstory. . .)

well let's think what came after 10

11 - MMORPG

12 - the main character was shoehorned in at the last moment

13 - long ass start and more cinematic then actual gameplay

14 - more online like 11

did I get that right?

So which ones have you played? Additionally, do you even have a 360 or PS3 to even to look into these games? If you don't, why even look at this as an option?

The thing I see about the first 13 is that it should've been a showcase game in first place. They should've pushed for an earlier release to show off the game and what could be in the future of the PS3, and then maybe build on it by then. Instead, the fans were cocked teased for the last 4 or so years for a somewhat okay non-linear Final Fantasy. I mean the game isn't bad; it was actually pretty good and entertaining if seen as movie/game concept and taken as is and not looking at it as a Final Fantasy fan.

My point being is similar to how the PS3 Metal Gear was. If you played that Metal Gear, you would've easily seen it as a long long movie; seriously, each cut scenes is like 10-15 minutes long of theatrics and just talking, and they had a lot of it. Though, it was received as a game changer in the next gen consoles because of their timing. I honestly think that 13 would have been taken much better if it was release just a year and a half earlier. Timing was what lacked in these guys' agenda.

Just to add, the game probably wanted to play with a new market and trying to go to where the trend of games are going. Of course some the fans probably does not like that change, but the fans that they want to create wouldn't even see it in the first place. Some fans would see that as some kind of betrayal, but I see it as marketing and adapting.

Well, let's see what the next instalment will bring. I'm still hoping for Versus 13 to come.

I've played tactics, 3, some of 7, both of 10, some of 12, and both 13. One thing that made me stick to the series is the lush dreamy music.

You know what they should do they should really release Final Fantasy 13 Versus already. "LAWL"

13 vs is a lie to make us hope....
The music of Nobuo Uematsu (Look at Mistwalker's Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon ) was awesome lol. Not too sure of 12 and 13's in comparison.
But yeah if it was release earlier and wasn't teased to be this awesome game our expectations wouldn't be so high, though MGS has always been long cutscenes, (which is what I liked, the story) 13's story would be good if you were not walking a long line, making you lose interest and then continue the story later, (took me two months to want to finish the game though there are moments I loved like Snow saving Hope and Lightning) a 40-hour tutorial, level limited by story, and they keep trying to milk it out. The only real reason I even beat it was cause it was a final fantasy, then I start to think why is that a reason?

Not sure if everyone agrees but I think SE lost their perspectives

In truth.....I honestly don't have much personal experience with the Fantasy.
the ones I've played are;

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, currently playing

Final Fantasy XII, I forget where I left off, but I remember being in a big city, running around in the sewers, and running around in a desert right outside the city walls, so I didn't get very far (it was a rental, back when stores like Hollywood Video and such were still around).

a remake that was for the DS (I think it was maybe 3 or something...not sure. I only got to play it a bit and I got as far as beating a Djinn in a cave and then getting the order from a giant Crystal to save the world).

and an OLD gameboy game that had "Final Fantasy" on it. Again I didn't get far. Partially because I did not know what to do. All I know is I was a prisoner/gladiator, and a buddy died helping me get out. I fall over a waterfall and get away. Then I got stuck leading a girl around in the forest.

from everything I have watched and read up on, a Basic Final Fantasy is you have a fantasy world, a party of characters, battles are turn based and you have up to 4 member of your party in the battle, and your group goes around the game's world on boats, chocobos, and airships made/piloted by a guy named Cid.

p.s. if I remember correctly..... Final Fantasy X had a few different endings.

at least I think those are the endings.

Looks at story stats...

Dafuq? The To AruX ZKC Comedy fic that I wrote on a whim is more popular than the Puella Magi fic I put my heart into!? How does that work?

I have a similar thing, only its more justified in the original crap I wrote I made 63 chapters while the remake only has 9 at the momment (and I'm STILL not satasfied with it...)
