How come nobody ever uses english for their fantasy world? The only one i can think of is avatar.

Id go with vulcanus, terrasius, zephirius and seaworld.

because English is boring

names for fantasy settings should either be hard to say or be based on ancient history/ancient mythology

^that's facepalm worthy, right there.

if you're not using english, what language do the citizens of these worlds speak? is there a separate language for all the different nations and a common for when they mingle?

also, do they speak their languages all the time, or only when pronouncing cool words like the name of their city or their cool badass sword?
for example.
- "tonight, we ride to the lebensmittelgeschäft"
or
- "fahren wir in den lebensmittelgeschäft"
(please forgive me if my shitty german)

how would the characters word it?
and what font do they use? for your asianesque nation, (as scene in almost every rpg) would you use the language and script that matches their culture?

as far as being hard to say, english has lots of those. just as we have difficulty pronouncing foreign words, foreigners have difficulty pronouncing ours. i would probably butcher the word lebensmittelgeschäft, just as a japanese person would likely have difficulty pronouncing the word intolerable. and hey, look at middle earth. the shire, mount doom, the lonely mountain, all those are english.

and you mentioned that it would be a final fantasy rp, but they use english as their magic language quite often. it's fire, water, thunder, and aero and then add a letter or two to make it stronger. do you know what the japanese called the ability level up? "reberu appu". and autoreflect was "Ōto Rifureku", or "Rea Aitemu" for rare item.

if you really want to get into it, you could make your own language. like ar tonelico did with hymmnos, which functions to the point where they can sing in the language, and it sounds beautiful. it has it's own script and follows a simple sentence structure, based loosely on english, (less rules to break).

well final fantasy spells have basic names like that so the player can easily know what the hell they are casting
Fire/Firaga - launch fire balls
Thunder/Thundaga - lightning spell
Cure - heal party members
Sleep - make enemy go night-night

Locations and names are sometimes based on things.
some of the strongest swords are based on the legendary swords of our world.

some locations come from other stories (be they names taken from previous final fantasy games, or other sources all together)
like Castle Pandemonium from FF2 and Pandemonium from FF9 both come from the story Paradise Lost

I also am not confident in making my own language, for fear of forgetting what means what part way through the rp

pretty cool, huh? we can only perceive 4 tastes (sweetness, sourness, saltiness, and bitterness, but 50% of our sense of taste actually comes from the sense of smell, and that's why we can taste more than 16 things.
the 5th taste (Umami) is something like a chord of the other 4, and it reacts to something they use to preserve food (glutamate) and that's why canned stuff doesn't taste like shit... LOL

anyway, found it interesting, thought I'd share

that's..... MSG right? XD
