Yup, that's what I'm talking about... actually, my father wouldn't let me get on the wheel until I learned and understood how an internal combustion engine worked, how to change a tire, how to know when the mechanics are trying to screw you and all those things... although I had no idea how the speedometer works, thanks about that.

also, another example would be the fact that I know technical drawing (blueprints and stuff) and carpentry, So my dad told me that we had to repair all the furniture in the house (it was damaged from being stored such a long time and then moved a lot) and make a little coffee table for mother's day because my mother is out of town and she comes here the 7th, and it's a surprise, so far we have repaired everything, have the skeleton of the table and we've put some kick ass LEDs in the cupboard for display, and thinking on the table details and color for painting, and all this for the cost of around 3/4 of an IKEA coffee table...
also, look at my skeleton design on how to get everything from a single plank:

you'll be amazed to see what will come out of that piece of paper... LOL

i was the same. my parents are farmers, so i've been changing oil and tires, and fixing engines and the like since i was 6, (though i've been driving since about 6, but that was just field to field)

by the way, the magnets are only for the gauge. i'm still not sure how the meter itself knows how fast you're going.

and nice. i wish i had some carpentry skills. even my store bought bookcases look like shit. i'm pretty good at metal bending , soldering and welding, but when it comes to wood, i'm average at best. we didn't really cover it apart from here is a screwdriver, some screws and a couple of hinges and latches. turn this part of the fence into a gate. (in a shed i helped put together.) as for blueprints, i'm pretty good with autocad, but i'm bad with keeping my lines straight on paper even with a ruler...

and lol, my mummy's new kitchen also has cupboard LEDs, inside and out. it's pretty cool.
(that was her christmas present from my step-dad 2 years ago. (here's a blank cheque. make it the way you want it, as long as we can still afford food to put in it.) it only cost 15,000, but they kept the floors the same and did a fair chunk of it themselves. it still looks very nice, though.)

just one for tonight...

If he is actually willing to spend years trying to learn japanese,
and willing to learn about their history and culture
and accepts to adapt to the tough japanese lifestyle
and accepts the cultural differences between him and them,
then I say, let him go for it.

In Europe, if someone says: "I want to get a job in America after I finish studying." It's considered a good idea.
In America, if someone says: "I want to get a job in Japan after I finish studying." It's considered ABSOLUTE EVIL HOW DARE YOU YOU DISGUSTING WEEABOO SCUM.

Unrelated:

TOEI, what are you doing to your animators?
I can't even imagine finishing up an episode and getting to hear:
"Yeah, listen up guys, I know we're finished and all and that the episode's airing next week,
but we're going to redo some of the scenes, okay?"
