Played Pokemon when I was younger. Picked it up recently to play with my little brother who happens to out talls me already. Also, played some Magic in the Odyssey era. Fun times.

Anyways, I recently ran into this thought recently that I posted on another thread.

Anyone here familiar with Sonic-Chu? If you don't know, look it up. Perfect video essay is by Down The Rabbit Hole on YouTube.

Anyways, going back to this old "meme" and putting it on another light when you are older, you kind of wonder about the people in the past that you played with in those get-togethers with card games, video game meet ups, and other geek-nerd stuff; keep note that this was when things are less widely available online and geek-nerd culture isn't as "cool" as it is now. This wonderment goes on their mental state, upbringing, awkwardness, social anxiety, autism, etc. On top of that, you wonder on your personal cognitive dissonance and their thoughts about your psychological health. Then this makes you think about your current state of things.

This is not to say that these people aren't normal because most likely they are but just into a fun hobby. But when you think about that neck beard playing Magic with 12 year olds and being a dick and you think about what you are doing now and how you understand things, I wouldn't say cathartic nor sour but more like "huh, I wonder why?" and "how do people see me now?". And then you looked are you desk full of figurines from Anime and games.

Anywho, recycling some material:

And holy cow dudes, it has been a decade since this place started. It has been so long that BasouKazuma, the MOD that originally permabanned and started this thread all over again (per my persuasion), isn't a Crunchyroll employee anymore. Holy cow. Damn. It has been a while.

Well, this is the OG post here:

A shame I wasn't part of the first generation, but glad I stuck around here for so long.

The Pink Jacket era might be the reason I stick to the movie collections for that franchise. Unfortunately, those never include Castle of Cagliostro, since that is Miyazaki, but it happens. *shrugs*

Depending on how you view it, The Castle of Cagliostro is either a great Miyazaki movie or a terrible Lupin movie. It depends on which side you stand with.

HISTORY ALERT:

For the strangest reason I have this massive feeling of nostalgia from the image you posted.
I think I may have been 16~17 when I first came here.
That makes it around about 10 years ago.
So many fond memories of those days.
Kinda surprised you managed to dig that up.

Ten years of /AMP/, and I have been here for half of them. *nods* Seems fair for a middle-of-the-road motter.

The animation for that particular Lupin series certainly belongs in the toilet. It looks like you are squashing the pictures horizontally, thanks to how the characters (and, in particular, their faces) are done, but you are not.

Also: Castle of Cagliostro is not a terrible Lupin movie, IMO, but it does have a pretty out-of-character Lupin, if that makes sense.

Actually that Toilet House is from the second series, but still when the series was getting lesser in quality.

The trick to the Nadesico movie is that it is not a sequel to the TV series. It is a sequel to a (hard-to-find, import-only) PS2 game (The Blank of Three Years), which is itself a sequel to the TV series. Thus, if you have only seen the TV series, the movie can come across as strange and incoherent. However, it does have

Tough Love

-Martian Successor Nadesico
I know the Prince of Darkness film seem to come out no where with no bridge between the film and television (i didn't know about the game). However i enjoyed it perhaps more than the television series. Maybe i liked it more for its slightly more serious edge (and fantastic quality to animation!) to the series perhaps verses the parody super silly scifi show playing off Gundam after fashion.

Hobbies, age, and such

Honestly, I see Anime and card games and video games more as a part of my past that I visit from time to time and something to do with my friends, but I don't really go out of my way to really explore it nor actually watch as much shows as possible. It's another form of entertainment that I was enamored with but has passed. The last bastion that I look into is CR and reddit and maybe vicariously from my younger friends who are into Anime and games. I maybe watch two to three series a year.

Part of growing up for myself is that I don't have as much time anymore; hell, I haven't even watched TV and regular series shows for more three years already. I have businesses and people to attend to.

I might go back to maybe playing more and watching more as my schedule is more freed up now, but sometimes real life is a bit more fun this time around.

This thread is still getting a lot of view despite the activity.

I think that I was around page 700 that year when I first posting mots. I was probably around 300 when I first lurked. It has been a fun journey thinking back of the all the users and events that took place. I still remember the old squad, the old guards, the legends, the skirmish, mass banning, and so forth. I know some people that used to be here are doctors now; I'm pretty sure that a lot of people have moved on their lives; I pretty sure that some people have passed away; hell, I wouldn't put pass that some of the more active players are now taking care of kids. This place is a sobering thought for me. Didn't think that it will last this long. Makes you wonder where the time went and such.

I would like to think that people who have passed these doors to have found something fun to do in their lives. I thought of this place more or less as a distraction from what we were doing when we were in school and such when I first stepped into here.

Welp. Whatever. Hope you guys have had your fun here.

The passage of time is both a frightening force and an awe inspiring phenomenon, isn't it?

On the topic of hobbies, I myself have been struggling with the fact that my time is limited, and balancing hobbies, personal projects, family and friends and work is pretty complicated now, compared to when I was a kid. There are more things to enjoy, more anime, more movies, more games, and simultaneously less time due to responsibilities. As a kid I often would spend months without any new vidya just replaying the Wind Waker a dozen times. Now I can't replay some newer gems because that's 10-50 hours I could be using for something new that's on my to-do-list.

Just a stream of consciousness born from the recent anniversary discussion and the fact that I'm sitting at home with a splint on my sprained ankle. Will go to the doc this afternoon to see for how long I need to sit still. Well, I wanted some free time, seems the universe complied. Not in the best of ways, mind you, but hey.

[Projects]

Damn. I have to so much to take care of. I haven't done a personal project for like two years already, just being bogged down with work, school, and partying.

Yeah. You get older; things get much more expensive; then then don't anymore; then you can't do anything; then when you want to you don't feel it; then so on and so forth.

Yeah. Whatevs. Just looking forward to the next phase of my business, not working as much and having a lot more time for myself.
