I don't buy this. If it's a realistic setting with Average Joes then I may accept the week girls. But when it's a fictional world where power is everything then there's no excuse. The girls must have the power to defend themselves on their own.

Yes. Mufasa's death was an important point for Simba's growth. Imagine if he woke up after few drops of tears! That will ruin everything the Lion King was supposed to be. And for Optimus it's another prove that fan pressure can change the course of the series.

one other thing, since the anime was just begining, people were use to Ash, Pikachu, Misty, and Brock, so the audience back then was attached to them all. if they had let Ash die right there, then chances are the backlash would of been like the backlash from Optimus' death years earlier.

Then they shouldn't have tried to kill him in the first place. (How does beam clash turn him to stone anyway?!)
