If you want my opinion, I'd say don't buy them. Not becuase they're girls' toys, but for the following reasons:
1.- The original MLP pony toys (meaning the ones that have hair) are ugly as a motherfuck.
2.- I don't like spending money in stuff that will just stash... If I can't use it, it's not worth my money.
3.- It is the cartoon we fell in love with, not the merchandise. I'd say this for pretty much any anime as well. A very good example of the opposite would be pokemon: The show isn't good, but a lot of people see the brand's name in anything and they'll pull out their wallets faster than a dueler pulls out his gun.
4.- It's not the brand first and then the thing: What I mean is that you shouldn't think on buying something because it's the brand's signature instead of thinking of your own needs. For example, here's a Rainbow dash Flash Drive that keeps appearing on my facebook's advertisement:

Now If I wouldn't have bought a flash drive recently, and if the price isn't that off (haven't even checked it) I'd buy that, because it's something I need anyway, besides, it doesn't look ridiculous at all, it actually looks kinda cool. It's the same with the shirts.

Now about the shame thing, let me remind you of how my 19th birthday was like:

It's not a matter of what it is, but how you portray it. I've gotten a lot of "why do you have a gay rainbow pony as the background of your cell-phone?" to which I respond: "because it's fucking aweosome!" and they just laugh and go along with it. This is really important, as well for anime: If you say: "Yeah, I like anime/ponies because I think it's cool" it's going to get a lot more of acceptance than saying: "Yeah, I like it because it has a seriously deep story that boards human psychology in the way that blah blah blah." Because seriously, they don't give a flying fuck about it. you can say that when people get more interested, be it in what you like or in you, then you say that. For ponies I just say: "because it's actually a good show, it makes me laugh, and it makes me happy. It was written by Lauren Faust and the animation and voice acting is simple yet brilliant. Much like classic rock."
Now, what most people think of me is more of "eccentric" rather than "weird", and absolutely no one thinks I'm gay. There will always be people who will think of me badly for these kinds of things, but seriously, if they do, they don't deserve to be my friends, and they're minority anyway, so I still got a lot of friends. I'm not saying you shouldn't give a fuck about what people think about you, that would be stupid. What I'm saying is that there is always a way to go through things, and images you create with people: for example, you're not inviting your boss to dinner and serving him on MLP plates, and you don't go to an interview with sweatpants because you are wearing a damn suit, but strangers are strangers, and your friends are the ones with which you're supposed to wear as little masks as possible.
going back to the toys, If they'll make you happy and you'd like having those on a shelf then go ahead. I've got mine full of gifted stuff (one of which is a MLP toy) and it looks actually pretty good. But do think about it in that way.
Also, remember that being a fan is not the same as liking something a lot. Fanatism blinds you of objectivity, and makes you act by impulse alone, but then again, if you like it so much that you're willing to buy the toys because you actually like them and not only because it's the brand, then go ahead, It's cool, bro.
