Characters who are hit in danmaku don't actually die. instead, they just take spiritual damage. if you take enough of it, you are rendered useless and unable to fight for a short while. now you're wondering why the MC has to fire so many compare to boss characters who only need to give a single hit. this is because the MC has a weaker bullet strength in exchange for constant streaming (if you look at youmu's slash attack in TH13, you'll notice its alot slower but stronger than a regular bullet). Also, Youmu is technically half-phantom. She was born that way. Don't ask how, she just was. 2. Youkai are judged differently as they are a phenomenon instead of an actual being. Reimu once said that youkai will disappear if they're existence are forgotten (wild and horned hermit). Regarding Heaven or Hell, the person will ascend to whichever or reincarnation depending on the judgement of the Yama (assuming they survive the journey through the sanzu river) 3. Weeeellll....... debatable. Can you kill that which is already dead? so, reimu can survive being hit by a blast of raw nuclear energy? or being smashed by a giant flying boulder? defence for the win. as for youmu being a half phantom, i'm not asking how she was born that way, i'm wondering what it even means. how is a half ghost different from a human or a ghost? for the judgement of youkai, that makes utsuho even more powerful, as people will always be afraid of something, and the easiest way to do that is to demonize it. example - a child is afraid of the unknown, and it's difficult to see in the dark. at young ages it's difficult to know what's what if you can't see it, even if you're an adult, and children tend to have rather vivid imaginations. what darker place is there than under the bed, or in the closet after lights out? in the mind of a child, not too many. so, they begin to imagine what IS down there, and it's almost always something scary. for me, it was always a skeleton under the bed. for the killing of the dead, sure, if it has a physical being. but alucard doesn't deal spiritual damage. he deals physical, with almost all of his attacks. i'm not quite sure how his shadows work, but they seem to be physical, as they can tear through flesh. i'll give him the advantage here, as i've read enough doujin to say that utsuho has a physical body and is not a ghost or spirit. did anybody else catch the WoW touhou refference? his name is commander nazrim and his quest is "a tiny, clever commander." and in an even more shocking anime reference, metalocalypse. note, this pic was not shopped. it's from season 4, episode 3.
