And as much as I've enjoyed this 4-day weekend, all good things must come to an end. Gotta go back to work starting tomorrow...

Dr. Who question: What's the format of the show? Is it a continuing linear story with a plot or an episodic show of the Doctor doing stuff? And are the generations related to each other or each one is a standalone/reboot/remake?

It depends, really, though as a whole the series is all linked by the fact that the Doctor is the same person. He just changes his appearance whenever he's about to die. If you're talking about the classic series, the plot was a bit more loosely linked with story arcs here and there. It followed the similar format, though:The Doctor finds himself in another sticky situation and uses a combination of brilliance and dumb luck to solve them. The new series follows a similar format, but each season has an overall arc that is resolved by the end of that particular season.

That's the short version, anyway. I'm not very good with explanations. (EDIT:Or you could just look up the wikia that KamenRiderPantsu linked there...)

Mot somewhat related...

Doctor's 1 to 7 followed the format of having serial arcs that would last at least 4 episodes or so

Doctor 8 only had a movie

Doctor 9 to 11 (now) are more episodic with situation taking place in one episode unless it's a 2 parter. Some of the newer seasons/series have had over arcing points that lead to big finale's. such as the last few recent episodes had blinking/flickering lights, which was to lead up to the return of the Weeping Angels, who have the ability to switch off lights.

also, each generation is more or less connect, because 95% of the time a companion has followed him through his regenerations.

should I go on?

Just one last question: Do I need to watch from the first series to get the jest of the story or is it okay if I start from the most recent one and not worry on what happened with the previous doctors?
