As a problem-solver and an inspiring sociologist, I don't see any method of avoiding a conflict/problem as real long-term solution.

To be frank, when a lot of the societal problems are caused by a general pattern of negative attitudes known as ignorance and prejudice. The only real long-term solution to this particular attitude problem, is to correctly identify the specific ideologies within all institutional and organizational structures of human societies. After that is a simple removal of just such ideologies through re-socialization.

And no, I'm not considering to spend anymore than what the human societies had already been spending on re-socializing. In fact I don't think it's even necessary, and to think otherwise it's self-defeating. Because that's exactly how we got ourselves into our current position in the first place.

In other words, I'm more than willing to face the negative attitude problem head-on. And I'm not afraid of me to be wrong with my method of approach. When those who oped out reasoning and subsequently are letting their attitude to do the talking for them instead, had already lost to themselves in the first place due to their lack of self-control and self-regulation.

umm I think you meant to say, program demeanor, and self-defeating attitude.
Would that not fit better in this situation.

Honestly, I'm not sure. I appear white, and I'm smugly certain most days that we are better than what I hear and see on american news and drama. but well... Racism directed at me tends to be limited to sotto vocce comments that imply I'm in cahoots with management becuase I'm white.

In Northwestern Ontario. The largest and most common ethnic groups, are third generation and pushing fourth they 'think' they're ethnic but they went to school with everyone else cheer the same hockey teams and complain about how 'Planet Toronto' is exploiting them all. Most other newer minorities are too small to be anything other than individuals to MOST people. But I've seen signs that racist attitudes prevail among some people. Being black, mostly would be something like .. I donno... having red hair or being noticibly tall or short. Not unoticed but hardly remarkable. On the other hand it sucks to be Native. At least, there's issues of poverty and past injustice and some prejudicial thinking. I know better than most since I'm 'stealth' native.

Here in Toronto, well the immigrant population is so large and so diverse I'm not sure what to say about it. A lot of people are fresh off the boat and have brought baggage from other countries but MOST people got the memo about leaving the violant shit at home.

Most of my coworkers do not look like me. and I have no problem with that.

one of the better known 'bad' neighbourhoods is predominately black, and is a dotted with a number of public housing projects.

The worst neighbourhood is probably a certain couple of blocks east of downtown where everyone comes from seirra leone or the congo... the problem there isn't becuase they are black it's that they are former child soldiers and other victims of savage civil war.

I think you can get an idea about how we feel about the LGBT community when I say that the top runner for Mayor this election is openly married to another man and that his being gay is never mentioned in any attacks ads. Or that we hosted the World Pride recently and have long had the biggest Gay Pride celebration in North America.

Compare that to how your country treats LGBT, and imagine a similar relaxation regarding race.

Will you never encounter prejudice? dream on. -I- encounter it often.

Will it hinder you in your life goals, job prospects etc.... Not as far as -I- (A white male) can tell. I wish I could be more positive but I don't want to give you false hope. Not far from Toronto is Brantford, one of the critical final stops on the underground railroad.

um... does that make things clearer?

So I guess ignorance can be found everywhere. I remember talking about immigration in another forum, and was basically called not only ignorant, a lier, and a traitor. All because I pointed out how they're a bunch of hypocrites.

people will do that where ever. All I can say is We have a very liberal immigration policy here. and a truly polygot society. Feelings and opinions cannot be legislated but we have strong legislaton protecting the rights of people not to be treated differently because of race colour, or creed. It's in our constitution.. which we only wrote and brought home in 1982

Not when my approach to control and regulate is through direction and flow. While ignorance lacks flow and prejudice have no direction. Because self-centered ideologies don't expand one's self-awareness outward, thus one's own negative attitudes can act like an intellectual "black hole".

What I really don't get is why everyone is trying to get rid of everybody? No one is from America in the first place, so isn't it like kicking your one self out the country? How would you feel? No one else is from that country, originally, so why do YOU get kicked out? Has anyone ever thought about this than me?

I find it hypocritical that people are trying to kick others out of a country that technically doesn't belong to them, but what do you expect? People in this day and age just don't give a shit about others. I say the whole world can go to hell, but that doesn't mean you have to go with it.

Nobody is trying to kick any immigrant out, if you come here legally. Nobody has a problem with legal immigrants.

Coming here illegally is a different matter.

There are illegal immigrants coming into this country and murdering people and kidnapping people and taking them back across the borders, forced home invasions, and so on. also they bring lots of drugs(illegal) into this country. Those are the illegals people have a problem with.

Hell a farmer on the border was gunned down and murdered on his property by Mexican drug cartel who were smuggling illegal drugs into this country, these are the same people who force entry(armed entry btw) into peoples houses and kidnap them and take them back across the borders. Lots of police officers have been shot by these people and a couple have been killed.

Isn't that exactly what the settlers did when they invaded America and killed hundreds of Native Americans? That's why I called it hypocritical, but I guess the same doesn't apply.
