I'm working on a new commercial manga title adaptation. I can't say what it is, but it features some characters with Osaka dialects and others with Yakuza accents. How do you like to see these things handled?

I guess use the equivalent of that accent. Like Osaka dialects usually have a heavy country accent. Kyoto has a lighter one. And the Yakuza could have a mafia like accent. (Cause they are the mafia) By the way this is mostly in anime.

I remember watching an old kung-foo movie where the some had brittish acents, to give them a sense of athoratiy and some had a strong drawl to show they are "good old boys". It did the job but it was distracting, I kept wondering why brothers sounded so differnt. Could giving some of the charicters have a slight main or "newfie" acent? That might not be jaringley differnt than a newyork acent but still get the point across. Otherwise using more formal speach for some, seams like the way to go.
