Just remembered another one, the sharing of the umbrella on the way home from school/work. They are aware of each other's closeness, the guy topically gets his shoulder wet keeping the girl dry and the girl will notice this kindness along with whatever sub-plot you want to throw into at that Thats another great one that is either mentioned, and someone tease someone about sharing an umbrella on the way home or carried out in multiple anime's I have watched.

1. the main character has a hidden past that his/her friends don't know about

2. the main character has hidden powers or a demon within them that they don't know about

3. the main character has a friend that had a crush on him/her for as long as they can remember for example naruto

4. the main character usually remembers a promise he/she made to a friend in the past during a battle

but it's different in any anime

The partnership between a human and some form of demon/supernatural being, often resulting in a romance between the two.
Fate/stay night
Pandora Hearts
Shakugan no Shana
Zero no Tsukaima
Elemental Galade
Zatch Bell
Omamori Himari
Seikon no Qwaser
Soul Eater
Only ones I could think of off the top of my head, but still clearly used frequently. Maybe not as conventional as those previously listed but Digimon and Pokemon too.

1. All main characters die in a final battle but comes back to life but the main hero/ heroine doesn't. So a love interest, somehow brings them back and takes care of the villain. Or the main characters give their powers to the heroine so she'll come back to life and kill the villain

2. If the love interest is older then he's usually (very) mean to the heroine. And then the heroine is very stupid, but somehow the couple works out even though they have a dramatic break up

3. The childhood friend is always the love rival. Also very cute and most likely a tsundere. But the childhood friend and the heroine will be friends and the tsundere might even help the couple stay together. And she usually get's jealous if the heroine makes a new friend.

4. The main villain is usually the hero's best friend, childhood friend or rival who's turn evil for: (more) power, the mary sue or just because

5. The main girl is usually a Mary Sue or the magic girl; Sometimes the reason why one of her friends turned evil; She maybe in love with rival but then warms up to the hero or is in the middle but never says anything to show she likes one better; usually stays to the sidelines and complains about it or not and may or may not have a change of heart and suddenly turn bad ass

6. The LONG haired blue/purple girl is shy and can barley be heard when she does talk (sounds like someone....); She's usually the one with awesome power but doesn't really show it until WAY later when she dramatically cuts her long hair to save her life!!! :O Usually out shined but the main heroine and end up turning to the dark side (after cutting her hair) and ends up the main bad guy. Mostly likely not for long though; Has a sad difficult past. Family or school/friend(s) pasts are heavily related; Most likely to have a crush on the main guy or the heroine's guy who the heroine RARELY notices.

7. The SHORT haired blue/purple girl is just quiet and always badass; She's the most loyal to the group and probably the smartest; Most likely a bookworm, artificial life, experiment, alien etc; Has no expression until she learns human emotions

8. For magical girl anime the characters are most likely: Ditz, shy/super smart, angry, oneechan, popular/ditz copy but smarter, critic, devoted love interest, but is mean

9. The main guy has a friend who kidnaps him and tries to get the old main guy back, because the heroine changed him. But the main guy ends up killing him (or the heroine) and says he could never leave the heroine

10. The white/silver haired guy is the older brother of the hero and usually WAY stronger than the hero, but somehow the hero cuts an arm off and the brother leaves for awhile. Sometimes popping up in the dramatic fights; Also the older brother is much more handsome than the hero; Usually has yellow eyes

11. The psychopathic characters starts out doing what they do for a good reason but toward the end that reason get's lost; Many characters and main characters die; Sometime in the middle end people turn on him and they find out who he REALLY is; Has a double personality with a different name

12. If the main guy is stupid then the heroine's smart, but both can be stupid; If the heroine's stupid then the main guy is smart, sly, cunning and a little sadistic (more if he's older) and very handsome!; If the heroine is a tsundere then the hero is a little sadistic

13. Players: Stupid player is a perv and tries to get the hero hooked up with main girl;
Overrated Player is very handsome and constantly brags about it. Flirts with every cute girl and all the girls love him. Most likely to have a fan nickname by the girls;
Sadist player is also very handsome and knows it. But unlike the stupid player, he doesn't brag about it. Unless he's trying to get a (tsundere) stubborn girl. Breaks girls hearts on a daily bases;
Cool Player is much like the sadist player just without the sadist part (maybe);
Naive Player is usually just a normal boy but every girl just seems to fall in love with him;
Makoto Player (do I have to explain?)

1. Deus Ex Machina - when something just so happen to conveniently come up, which solves a conflict or an issue in a matter of minutes. If this plot devices ever come up, it's most likely hate and disappointment for that series.

2. Author Appeal - If the author or creator likes or is inspired by something, then something similar or the exact same is most likely to appear on their work.

3. Tsundere - I don't think I need to make myself more clear for this. This trope has been invoked so many times, that you could write it off as cliche by now. Don't get me wrong, if done well, tsundere characters can be the most interesting from a series (e.g Bakemonogatari), it's just that the sheer amount of recycled and one-dimensional tsunderes are beginning to tarnish the trope.

4. Fanservice - Same deal with tsundere, the overuse of this trope is getting stale and ridiculous each season.

Talking about adventure/action plot

1.) There is always a evil person bent on world domination and good person who stops it XD

2.) The main character gets beat up by a powerful enemy and he/she realize they need to get better by undergoing some "special" training (also they arrive in the nick of time when the "powerful enemy is about to destroys a town or is about to kill the protagonist friend(s))

3.) In terms of Naruto, Bleach, Dragon Ball Z, etc. the enemy keeps on coming, each stronger then the previous one which makes u think "who is the evil final boss? ("there's no end to them! unless the creators decides it's enough)

4.) Parent's and friends... Parent's because they yeah (most of the time they're dead by some sad sob story, or they are weird but in the past they are feared by all)... friends because they provide comic relief, rivalry, and mold the hero (also the death of a friend will push the hero into a direction)

*5) The heroine/hero is either unobtainable until he/she is able to slay the "evil dragon", childhood friend, or either the hero or heroine "takes a bullet" and then they realize how important they rly are

Also nice on the rescue trip, typically turns into a saga, Say Naruto, Bleach, and countless others, everyone knows that there are too many to be listed, nice call on that one.

Shounen Action / Adventure
1. The main character believes in power of either: friendship, justice, love or any other reasons that you'd have heard of before
2. The villain kick the good guys' ass, showing all of his/her skills in the process, until the good guy suddenly stands back, give lecture how they wouldn't give up because they need to win to protect someone they care about or [insert any other reasons which you'd have heard of before], and proceeds to beat the shit out of the villain, or downright killing him/her.
3. There always seems to be a completely useless female character with the good guys, either damsel in distress or Ms Fanservice one way or another.
4. At least one of the good guys is a complete idiot, jerkass, useless loser or a bishounen

Shoujo/Shounen Romance
1. Good times don't last forever, this is like the golden rule in romance dramas.
2. There's a manipulative bitch of a girl pretending to be nice
3. It's like a sin if there's no tsundere - kuudere, yandere and yangire are optional.
4. There are more love triangles or harems rather than a normal steady couple, and many are unrequited

General Shounen / Shoujo
1. School, rooftop of a building, hot springs, showers, beaches are common settings
2. Some characters are either pathetic, useless, moronic, manipulative, naive, annoying or jerkasses.
3. Guys look extra bishounen in shoujo series, while girls look extra... 'unrealistically gifted' in shoujo series
4. Guys suffer from chronic accidental pervert incidents, while girls suffer from chronic klutziness.

It's AMAZING...what you just said is exactly what i was thinking. I mean i couldnt have said it any better . You're totally my hero right now for pointing these out .
And these are actually the reasons why i'm so picky about what i watch or read!! im probably one of the few girls who hates romance animes

1) I notice the same setting of a river and grass hills overlooking the river and a bridge somewhere there too.
2) Main character has some secret power that pretty much kicks butt but is unlocked through emotion.
3) Good guys always meet enemies stronger than them no matter how much they trained and got stronger for the fight before.
4) There's always some laid back character who always sleeps or is just quiet and is super strong.

I'm a magical girl enthusiast, so most of these things come from the Majo Shojo genre

1. Hot Spring/Bath Scene
2. The summer vacation episode where someone waits until the last minute to do homework
3. Villans who talk too much
4. The beating-up of the monster of the day, when the characters could just use one attack and be done with it
