the problem is that they don't have to give us any legal alternative. Japan's xenophobic manga industry refuses to comply with the international market in an efficient way, of course there is the translated takebon but no one can afford them at $10 an issue before tax [ at least those of us who read at my level] plus the translations are always like years late. A site like CR would probably work but the notes for all of the jokes and the funny tl comments wouldn't be there so i don't know if it would be the same experience and I'm not sure that the manga industry would settle for a free account on a legal site since they don't have the kind of financial backing that the anime industry has, you can't rip off manga otaku as bad as anime otaku

I think I am going to cry....I have so many *pokes profile* mangas that are on going that will probably never get published! *cry* I can't read Japanese and I probably won't be able to learn it anytime soon. This is so annoying!

Well Crunchyroll, I see a pretty profitable business opportunity here for you...

Seriously though, they take down one of our few resources to keep up with the latest manga but do not offer a legal alternative. This is poor business sense, the only reason most of the manga and anime are popular in America and other countries in the first place is because of places like this. If the publishers were to call for an end to these manga sites but offer us an alternative for a fee then it would be just fine, in fact it would be great. Instead however, they completely snub their western fanbase by denying them one of their few resources for acquiring new manga and providing no legal avenue in return for them. I love anime and manga, but the way these publishers handle their business and products to customers abroad is appalling. At least anime has taken a large step forward with Crunchyroll, why can't manga follow suit?

Exactly! It's beyond stupid to stop the scanlations without an alternative. I mean wouldn't you rather hear the publishers say:

"Okay. We are really going to put an end to all illegal scanlations groups BUT we're now going to offer them on our website (or Crunchyroll). It'll be a paid subscription, but you'll still be updated with the latest chapters plus other great features that only you will get from us!"

than this:

"Okay, We are seriously going to get rid off all of your illegal distributions! End of story."

Exactly, it just makes me thing that they have a narrow-minded of branding scanlations as piracy and End of story.

They can turn this around into something good. They are not thinking straight. There are better solutions other than banning and thats it.

This is gonna hurt the manga industry --> drop in fan base and new title releases will also take a hit as it will be harder for fans outside japan to even take a peek at their work. they will not be known and they will not get global coverage.

lets hope that they are not sitting laid back and not looking for a better solution.

U have to understand that these are the products of author. These are their breadwinners. This is how they earn their living. Piracy is taking a cut in that. its not right and its definitely not fair to the author. The authors deserve more.

RIP Onemanga.com thanks for everything. Just as I was starting to explore other manga aside from Bleach and Naruto... All is not lost; I can still get manga on my phone.

Get on it, Crunchyroll. Would be pretty sweet if I can get my weekly anime and manga fix all on one site....!

ARGH!

Well honestly this'll hurt my manga reading. There are no manga shops nearby, and buying them through the net isn't possible yet since I don't have a credit card that I can use on the internet (have to wait until 18+ :P) . Well when I think about it I am too cheap to buy them anyway, I'd rather skip reading :P.

Well I guess the companies can't take us reading their stuff for free, they need to make a living too.

That said there ARE other sites to read from, so it ain't over yet! :D

Unfortunately im too poor to go buy manga... and its hard to find them translated in english. Today is truly a sad day.

I heard they will be making their own websites or something.. make people pay to read? dunno the details about that (if someone knows please do tell) I wonder if they could make it a free website though and still make money...possibly by putting a crap load of advertisements on their website? i dunno... Man this is stupid RIP OM I will forever miss you.

Its retarted that they have to take down every manga.
If I could I would buy the volumes, but the volumes are so damn expensive and I
don't like the fact on waiting for 5 months just for the book to come out.
It just isn't fair,I loved reading new manga chapters weekly (naruto,skip-beat,ouran,akuma to love song.....)

Now the only good site left for manga reading is mangafox
I hope it doesnt close down too. >_>

EDIT:It would be awesome if CR could take advantage of manga.
manga and anime on the same site would be kickass.

& I was planning on reading bleach in case the anime went into a filler season. >_>

Aw man, now I can't read my smutty manga without anyone giving me the side eye.
This makes me so angry, OneManga is a part of my life, it's the site that originally got me hooked.
I actually think this is going to hurt the comic industry in the US because before I had heard of OneManga I was only buying what was availabe in the Barnes and Noble in my town, but after I read at OneManga I was discovering different Manga-kas, and supporting them also.
I'm not going to be sleeping this week, I'm gonna read manga until my eyes bleed!

Edit: Is there any way we could petition? God the more I think about it the more it makes me mad. What a horrible business move on the publishers part. The comic industry is going to go into even more of a decline.

Yeah! I found out yesterday. I was really upset, I use that site for like all of my manga reading! Crunchyroll needs to get manga.

nooooooooo!!!!!

Those manga's you just said are already licensed and release (Bakuman will be released in August). That's the problem, people manly went to OneManga just to read manga's that are already licensed (or about to soon be licensed). I know some actually read manga's that will never get licensed (and it sucks that they will never get licensed =/), but, majority of manga on the site was already licensed. =/

I can see why it was issued a cease and desist order because we were technically reading free and translated versions of what most people are paying to buy in Japan. Still, it doesn't make it any less of a major hit to the English reading manga community. All we can do is thank OM for being there all those years with quality scans and move on since there is still plenty of "alternatives" out there. I won't be so kind as to name them since they are pretty easily found through a search, but it's still better than nothing. Also, I would rather keep the remaining sites off the radar of the very people that got OM shut down. The real shame is that there isn't any websites that operate with the same model as CR in the manga sense that have the same variety we got with OM because honestly I wouldn't mind paying a small fee.

RIP One Manga
