Apparently in this interview on Anime News Network: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/anncast/2010-07-22, 4 Kids finally explained why hey butcher things and the truth(slightly speculated) behind what happened with the first One Piece dub. They also mentioned that their working on a streaming site for uncut versions of their anime and some others though unfortunently only subtitiled(yes I like dubs, most are actually enjoyable with some execptions). I'm glad their changing their ways in a sense(I'm tired of hearing anime fans rioting about them), but they should, make uncut dubs too(prays for uncut Shaman King dub)

I was shocked too, but since I've always understood WHY 4 Kids has to edit things(it's the damn network they air their stuff on), I've never really hated them, especially since Funi has One Piece and anime fans should just let the past die. I'll support them on this simply because their's no reason for me not to. The industry's in a recession people, while we may not want to admit, they are one of the companies left bringing anime to the Region 1 market, and I'd probabaly never heard of half my favorite anime if it wasn't for them. If 4 Kids is willing to change(believe me their not in a position to lie) then they should be supported. Who knows, this could actually be very helpful in the revivial of the industry...

Wait wait, so they ARE participating for some anime to be uncut!? My question is how much of it will they keep uncut? Last time I bought one of their uncut dvd's (I forgot which series), they still kept all their english names and the acting was a little poor, as if their trying to get a bad rating for their uncut dvds. Then again, it is 4kids.

Oh also they already made a shaman king uncut but it only lasted till episode 8 or 9 I think.

If you're serious about 4kids "seeing the light", then it seems I've changed my mind about the 2012 prophecy. Time to prepare for the end of the world.

Censorship is in short the vandalism of art. I won't give the extended philosophy here. Such vandalism is not something I have any tolerance for. And 4kids I have come to accept as the most notorious, insincere, casually acting vandals I have ever known. Their complete neglect and disregard for the nature of art and an artist's intentions has earned violent thoughts from me toward them. ...Oh, wait, I'm ranting after all.

I understand why they did everything they did, but counter rationalization I have provided elsewhere concludes their reasons were foolish and ignorant, and that the US has a big problem.

I'll have to listen to this after a delay. I'll be quite shocked if they exhibit greater rationality than they have demonstrated in the past. Their behavior I cannot forgive, but individual acts I can forgive due to alternate works being available that were not touched by them.

Now I have listened to the full interview, with high hopes. I wouldn't really say they have seen any light, and that the world's order is still in balance. The reasons they butcher were already clear, and even without hearing from them, I knew they acknowledge One Piece as a big mistake.

The element of hearing that they'll stream uncut versions is interesting alright. The streaming part is natural since it is the movement in modern history. However it sounds like the uncut versions is coming as an afterthought. But it is clear they've assigned some serious people to the job. At the very least I'll give them a fair look when that happens (still a fan of the YuGiOh franchise). It has the potential to help them into a better position, but I don't feel they're going to focus on it enough.

It doesn't sound like they want to change they're direction. Them japanese cartoons are what kids like because they're animated. There are two things they seem oblivious to. They seem oblivious to the existence of anime audiences aged 40+ (their obliviousness to it is not excused by it being so different from their target audience). The second problem they seem oblivious to is that by them getting the licenses to shows, they prevent other companies from doing so. So that means that they have to either do it according to the preferences of those who would watch the show, or let someone else handle it. One of their lines basically sounded like, "you're not in our target audience, so go watch a different version of the show", but if they have the rights then there is no other legal version in that region.
