Well without ignorance who would bring me my food and pump my gas?

A little vaguely said, but I have the same stand on ignorance as this person. A world consisting in nothing but all geniuses without ignorance the end result would be total anarchy. We need the ignorant soldiers that will blindly go where someone who has a larger scope of what's happening, and is more aware of the situation. We need the naive teens that believe their only option in life is to pump gas, or serve food at a restaurant.

While we need well educated people as well, a world without fools just wouldn't work. It sounds nice in theory, but when you think about it, it would result in a world without economy.

Ignorance= sad. It's not like the human brain can know everything though. I don't like it when people refuse to learn something because "ignorance is bliss."

trueryder - You're god damn right it is. With such a small amount of time to enjoy on this earth, what's the point of knowing more than you have to?

Ummm... both I think. An amount of knowledge is subjective, and I think, dependant on the person. Say someone tells me all about how hot dogs are made and I can never eat one again... but hotdogs are my favorite food and I become a sad, miserable person. They gave me too much knowledge. As for never being able to not learning enough... well there's always more to know, isn't there? If a piece of information would have been of value to you, but you didn't aquire it.. that's the time when you will realise your lack of knowledge. Otherwise, it's just a general sense that there is more to know.

Yeah I hear you there, if we knew too much we'd probably wouldn't be doing the majority of things we do everyday, it's best not to know too much but just enough.

The problem with ignorance is probably less ignorance itself than ignorant people thinking that they aren't ignorant. It may actually be just as if not more important for people to be aware of how ignorant or knowledgeable they are in a given area as it is for them to learn.

To know you need to learn you have to be aware that you're ignorant. So being unaware of ones' own ignorance is probably a bigger problem than the ignorance itself.

In the modern world, meta-knowledge is probably more important than knowledge itself, because meta-knowledge or "knowledge of knowledge" gives you indications of what subjects exist and how to learn them if needed.
