I can tell you guys about a girl who used to scratch open her entire arms-length because of violent flashbacks she had from the days she got molested by her father in her younger years.
She bottled it up, stowed it away and it all resurfaced during a rocky teenage time in which some scum boyfriend took pictures of her chest and posted it on the internet. I noticed at the time she wasn't her usual cheery self and asked her to skip class with me, like I usually did at the time to smoke some pot.
While I did just that, roll up, she proceeds to take off her shirt and asks me to make love to her right there.
Now to cut class, we had ended up in seclusion, so it was a safe spot, it's just that I'm a skeptical stoner and didn't trust it one bit.
I grabbed her by the neck, gave her a kiss and told her I'm going to finish my roll first, because I've got class in another 40 minutes.
She starts crying, takes a twig and starts twisting it in her ear till blood comes out. now at first I figured she had a little itch, but damn.
It was a clear cry for attention, but I knew not what to do at the time. I fought a lot, so scars were not uncommon.
Ten years ago this was......She died as a prostitute 3 years ago......I found out in the paper.....

I've read so much about this stuff, but I used to cut . I did it because I felt dead and by cutting I could see the blood and feel alive. However, by the time I didn't need to cut for that reason anymore, it was just a habit and found it really hard to stop. I hate when people say that people cut for attention. Yes, there are a small percentage of people that cut for attention, but there are many others that cut because cutting is there way to cope.

I don't get why they cut themselves when they can just destroy other things.

A couple of years ago, I vented my frustration by smashing the old, rotting junk in the garage. I would take one of the unused things there, like an old broken TV or cassette player, and just whack it with a sledgehammer as hard as I could until I felt better. Seeing all the broken pieces of glass and fragments of twisted steel from the destroyed machines never failed to help me feel better. A fire also helps. I'd make a fire, gather annoying pests from around the house, and toss them into the flames and watch them turn into ash. Or I'd get a bottle of alcohol and make a burning trail into an anthill.

Occasionally, if I was frustrated but wasn't feeling too destructive, I'd just grab my sword and cut tree branches, sprigs of bush that stuck out, weeds, and wild flowers. I didn't do that very much since the sword was real and very expensive though.

I like you. I like to destroy things as well. You just gave me a bunch of things to do the next time I'm real pissed or upset. Thanks.

When I was in hospital I went for a wonder around and went to browse the Psychiatric section of the hospital.

Not pretty saw a girl with about 12 slashes up each arm.

i think about it, and also the pain, im scared of pain, i even thought about cutting my wrist, but i cant find the thing that i want to do it with, i see it as god say no in a way, then i'll calm down and think if i did find it i would've lost my life and all the oppurtunities it'd give me

i never imagined hurting myself. If ever i'll do "IT", i dont want any pain involve---i want it fast and instant
i have this classmate back in high school who cut her wrist coz she didnt win the pageant..Apparently,she's a histrionic trying to catch our attention, nonetheless, we were hell worried.

No cutting for me. I prefer massive amounts of alcohol and tobacco to blur out my shit life.

I don't wanna start a flame war or anything, I would like to share my perspective on cutting.

I been cutting since I was a teen and stopped in my early 20's and I wear my scars proud. I do not expect many people to understand what I am going to say unless you're a true masochist . I not gonna lie I enjoy pain, when people think OUCH! I think it hurt's so good... I have gotten over 20+ piercings in my life and plan on getting some scaring work done in the near future. You can call me a idiot, you can call me EMO or say ever but to me pain is my yang to pleasure, you will never truly know pleasure until you can contrast it with pain.

There is a huge number of reason why people cut for most it is a way to mask deep emotional pain with physical pain. For some it is ritualistic such as rite of man hood among tribes in Africa. It can also be spiritual (remember slias in da vinci code?). Cutting can also be a form of art (Dont click on link if your squeamish http://www.rongarza.com/Pages/ScarPortfoliomaybe.html). If you want a better understanding of cutting ask someone that has multiple tattoos why they got it and it will perhaps shed some light on the topic of SI.

No matter what reasons you cut the out come is the same everyone searches for the euphoric state of mind when your body is under extreme pain. This is one of the reason why so many people get addicted to getting piercings and tattoos. When your body release adrenaline and endorphins it feels like you are beyond this world ;)

This is one of those things where you have to experience your self, kinda like sky diving

I just want to bring awareness that cutting isn't always about dealing with pain but rather a free state of mind and bliss.

I only feel pitty for those who do this, and I truly hope they can get to a point in their life where they don't need/want/do it any more.

I myself have never considered cutting.

Yohann, no one should judge you.
Yet glorifying this form of escapism isn't helping us talk them out of it....

Ps. Skydiving is sooo not like cutting, lol

I cant pretend to understand why she did/does this but I do know shes stilla great person. She just has pain I apparently cant imagine. Glad you stopped though. She almost went to far one time and I know noone wants that for you either
