Yeah I hated these episodes. It gave no new insight to any of the characters and was quite boring to boot. Young Naruto is annoying.

is anyone else absolutely ****ed off that they made a double header of fillers? like really? what a waste lol and to think i stayed up all night just to watch that? to be honest, i couldnt even finish the first one :/

What a monumental waste of time.
If anything, this throwback to the original series made me remember all the things I ended up hating about the old series. At its worst, the original Naruto was a collection of disjointed filler episodes or short arcs with no relation to one another, completely lacking an overarching plot, and completely chock-full of bad plot devices and characters either acting like terrible caricatures of themselves (like Guy-sensei here) or completely out of character.
Also made me remember just how terrible "Inner Sakura" always was.

I thought the episodes were pretty good. They were throwbacks to the old goofy Naruto and while not written in a comic book first (I don't know why anything that's not in a comic book is seen as bad by default), they fit in with the story and made sense, especially considering how chummy Shikamaru and Naruto where during that part of the chunin exam.
Plus it reminded me of what I used to like about Naruto as a character.
