Well I gotta admit, I would want my anime-crush to be pure. Depending on how I fantasize, I could either want to have sex or just want to act like an older brother and help them along. But yea having anime characters be pure is a fundamental rule to having a large fan-base.

I agree whole heartedly (and belatedly!). I tried to watch Natsu no Arashi, but I just couldn't finish season 2. The plot were enjoyable at first, but when the second season rolled around the fan service became boring and a turn off. As my age indicates, I'm not a horny little boy, but a horny old man. When I watch anime, I expect decent and entertaining fiction. When I need to satisfy other needs, I go ask my wife.

What do I consider decent and entertaining fiction?
1. Time of Eve (Yasuhiro Yoshiura, where are you? I'm beginning to get desperate)
2. Natsume Yujincho (I understand the need to avoid filler, but what are you trying to prove by producing only 2 seasons?)
3. Erin
4. Last Exile
5. Shangri-la (the final battle sucked! She should have been leading a revolutionary mass army, like Napoleon, which would have displayed true heroic and strategic leadership; instead, she fought a measly individualist battle, which was a negation of the rest of the otherwise enjoyable season [producers, take note].)

I'm not placing Fist of the North Star, Naruto, DB(Z), Bleach and other epics on this list, because epics tend to avoid fan service, save for Urusei Yatsura and a few others. Epics tend to steer away from fan service as the main theme, because ecchi gets stale very quickly, and horny young boys mature very quickly.

So if I got this right in the last post....the so-called otakus are ruining today's anime by having tons of ecchi in it and it takes away from the story?

See my thing is, I have no problem wth ecchi as long as it's done right and not in every scene. You gotta let the story thrump the sex because it's not a hentai...and you know damn well most hentai just has straight up sex and little story.

So yeah, the ecchi in new animes need to be toned down. People don't watch anime for sex unless you're this damn desperate and you never get out much and meet a real person.

sadly there are people that will "fap" to any type of anime because of how sick they are. to be fair i don't mind ecchi at all i know that I am going to sound contradicting, it's just the fact that sex/nudity doesn't do anything for me "any more" . Most series I watch that are like that are just comedies like love hina or negima. What I was talking about was off topic on the fact that Japanese otakus take it to such extreme when a character in a anime or v/a is not "pure" so they can fill their own desires. The reason I know so much is because of the fact I "used" to be that way until i got sick of it. So now I just watch watch anime for the sheer enjoyment of it, that's why it was created in the 1st place.

Natsu No Arashi had hardcore fan service? I really dont remember that. The only real fan service scenes I could remember were because of Jun. Since she dresses up as a boy there were bound to have stories around that....but nothing I ever found that would make it seem bad.
Maybe I need to re-watch it again

Natsu was not hardcore at all and wasn't "bad", but the "Arashi taking a bath" intro was as pure fan service as you can get, and it had nothing to do with introducing a series, story, etc... It was softcore fan service and one that I found I couldn't finish, because the potential of a good storyline (time travel, ghosts, etc...) was dulled. Maybe I'll try to finish it in the future, but it did get stale in the second season. In comparison, Natsume always kept it fresh without the need for even a hint of fan service, by remaining focused on the plot.

LOL. No the ecchi doesn't bother me. As long at it is not out of place in the anime. The only thing I don't like is sucky plots and characters.

Curse you people... causing me to actually sign in...

You're all crazy. Ecchi is greatness. I admit that random, pointless ecchiness does throw off your senses, but what point is it to say an anime is better without it? Goshuushou-sama Ninomiya-kun was meant to be ecchi. I don't think I would have liked it if it weren't. (just saying that cause of the 2nd persons post) I understand that I am biased, but I truly feel this. Sure, big breasted loli's are ridiculous, but it brings forth lulz. Ikkitousen was ruined with each season, but initially it was a beast. Air gear, History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi, High School of the Dead, all great anime with large quantities of ecchiness. To me, ecchi brings freshness to anime. There is too many anime out there that are all the same ole same ole. The romantic based anime are ok, but tend to get a little bland. BAM! Add some ecchi and you've kicked it up a notch. It all depends on the ability of the producers and crap to balance everything out.

I agree. Take the ecchi out of an ecchi show and what the hell do you have left? All ecchi does is add another flavor to the anime.

Might I just defend myself in saying that I bitch about ecchi cuz its annoying and it bothers me and pisses me off when there's too much of it (see my earlier post or my blog) but contrary to DarkPhoenix's statement I absolutely hate yaoi (so I guess I'm the other 10%? O.o) and I find it disgusting and creepy. One better for the statistics, I also hate any of the stupid sparkly flowing hair bishounen scenes or scenes where the guy is in a sexy pose/has his shirt open/pants unzipped at the top, I find that to be almost as annoying as normal ecchi. Only reason I say almost is cuz its not as frequent and it doesn't show up EVERYWHERE. Thats why I couldn't get through wallflower.

I think you've hit upon something. They are trying to solve the problem of Japan's declining birthrate!

oh damn!! but some of your post here it seems that your favoring the ecchiness which means you are a part of the grand plan or trying to "help" solve the declining birthrate

but lets be straight yay or nay?? dont even try to sit on the fence cause you know... its gonna hurt

I do not really see it as enough of an issue to have a strong opinion about. It is really about as relevant to me as a debate about whether anime characters should have unnatural hair colors or not.

Let's take a well known ecchi series, Ikki Tousen. If the girls' clothing remainder intact during fights, and the other ecchi elements were removed, would I still watch it? Yes, because the main attraction to me is (unrealistically) strong attractive women that can lay the smack down on all comers. Also, the ecchi elements in the series are more often that not simple eye candy, rather than part of a comedic element.

Take the example of another well known ecchi series, Rosario + Vampire, however, and remove the ecchi elements, and you would lose a good portion of the comedic elements in the series as well.

If I were forced to vote, I would go with "aye", as I rarely find it bothersome (the always-white panty flashes in Agent Aika and this year's Ikii Tousen are notable exceptions), and sometimes find it contributes to humor.

I've been stoping in and reading what people have had to say about this and I finally decied to put my 2 cents in. I personally have no problem with it at all. I really get a kick out it and how over the top it can be at time. Have to agree with with what superluccix,TheAncientOne and other have said. You take the ecchi out of an ecchi type anime and you really don't have anything left. For example Seikon no Qwaser an anime I happen to like very much. All be it a little over the top at times. You take out the ecchi from the series and it really loses something. I watch the censored eps of it and its kind of hard to watch with out the ecchi.Other animes like Ikkitousen , Midori days (AKA Midori no Hibi), Vandread, Mahoromatic. I could go on naming anime of this type, But the thing is with each anime, Ecchi plays a big part in the anime and how charachers interact with each other and can at times set up key moments in the anime. If people have a dislike for ecchi or think there is to much don't watch. Its simple enough and as much as some complain about it won't stop people from watching it. I am sorry Ecchi is not going to go away and my only get bigger who knows.

The only problem I may have with ecchi is when they go back and redo an anime that was prefertly fine like the first Negima Series and say hey the 1st one was not good enought. We got to go back and make the girls more bouncey, Flash more panties, and whatever other crazyness. I think if the first was fine it should be left be. Unless there is some kind of out cry for it.
