Hip-hop's Public Enemy
Minister G. Craige Lewis has one goal: Get hip-hop out of the church. Forever.

1. In the beginning, the devil created heavy metal.

2. And it made white men and women worship him, causing them to eat bats, kill cats and carve pentagrams into their flesh. And the devil saw that it was good but that it had no impact whatsoever on black folks.

3. And so he created a new form of music just for them. It had a catchy beat and infectious, hypnotizing rhymes, and the brothers liked it. It made them sag their pants and smoke weed and shoot each other from low-rider Impalas. And they called it hip-hop, and the devil saw that it was good.

All i can say is i think it's amazing how one person can totally change a whole group of people's minds, but it just goes to show you how religion can influence your beliefs, how you think, and how you interpret things. Obviously, this guy connected hip-hop and the devil because of his christian beliefs.

Now me not being religious at all don't think that this connection is really that great. It could just be coincidence in some cases and of course the interpretations could be a little one sided. I don't want anyone to take offense to this, but i really just think the idea is bullshit. Of course my ideas are also swayed by my non-religious beliefs.

Feel free to flame me with any of your ideas against my standpoint.

I also don't see the point in not listening to hip-hop because someone says it's the "devil's work".

You have the choice and power whether to be influenced by the music or not. Your brain does not get tricked into doing unecessary things that you don't normally do by listening to catchy music in my opinion.

well this might clear Jay-z's case properly. watch the whole video and you'll get the idea.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=usg_VHiQjjo&feature=related

in Snoop Dogg's case, i don't really see the relevance in Craige talking about snoop's murder was the case video and the church choir.

in any case, i haven't seen a video of him talking about 2pac yet, who of course has many different cases involving jesus and reincarnation and death revolving around him.

IF YOU LOVE HIP-HOP YOU WILL NOT LET ONE PERSON'S VIEWS (RATHER EXTREME) TAKE THAT AWAY FROM YOU.

Personally, i think he just wants everyone to put away hip-hop forever, not because he thinks it relates to the devil, but because he dislikes hip-hop and culture related to hip-hop period. I don't see how people can be reincarnations of the devil.

I agree with Nolrame, he is just trying to find a way to keep people from listening to Hip Hop. If, he dislikes, it so much, the man shouldn't listen to it, no one said he had to. I tried watching the first video, 3 times, and everytime it stopped a the same place. This tells me, It's not worth watching, becuase I have my opinions and believe. People who do Hip Hop has a God given talent to do that, and what that man said, not all of them smoke and sag and etc. The only thing religious to music is gospel music. I haven't read anything in the bible saying Hip Hop is the devil, nor do not see that in the Ten Commandments saying Hip Hop is the devil. And, that is wrong for that man to go out there with his opinions like that. And, if Jay-Z decides to call himself God, that is him, not the devil, and I doubt Jay-Z thinks he is one, he might of said it or his name, but that is crazy. That is like if someone commited a crime and said the Devil made me do it, so that means they can say in court that they should be free then, sorry, nope, that is not going to work.

Craige's idea implies that all things having to do with hip-hop is related to the devil and is evil. If this is true, then KRUMP, all hip-hop/freestyle/street dance, DJs, MCs, music, clothing, even ourselves are pioneers of his evil. This means that even the International world of hip-hop is pioneering his evil as well, but that is just ridiculous. I can bet that at least 20% of the hip-hop world is not Christian.

Run DMC is a group that pioneered hip-hop in the 80's, but everyone knows that Rev Run is definitely not a sadist or follower of Satin. Run IS a reverand afterall...

Consecutive post...but this guy generalizes and ASSUMES the reason these guys would act in such ways, such as Russell Simmons worshipping Kali. He says that he worships her because she rules over thugs but that is just an assumption. Plus, Kali is not the goddess of destruction, she is the destroyer of demons and brings natural balance to the world.

In my opinion, GCL is just like all the other ministers that are anti-hip hop...........they're bullshitting. The only difference is, GCL managed to find "some evidence" to help him bullshit his opinion that hip hop is the devil.

Whatever his motives are, Branch says, Lewis' message is built upon lies and distortions and that the only reason it passes for truth is because those he shares it with are already biased against hip-hop. "He has taken advantage of a very uninformed body of believers and provided them with a very skewed picture that's easy to believe because he's basically struck first," Branch says.
I took this from the article and completely believe what he is saying!

This is by far the most interesting post.........I beleive this man is full of pure shit! For one i don't understand...why he is downing hip hop something that has uplifted many black people! I've never been religious but daamit hate me when i say I don't give a damn.....

But his followers are nothing but dumbasses......there probably isn't one person in that church that went and researched what the hell he was talking about!

ALL THAT MAN DID WAS JUST ASSUME AND MADE IT TO A POINT WHERE PEOPLE BELIEVED IT!!!!! IF WAS A REAL PREACHER WHY DOESN'T HE TALK ABOUT THE EVILS OF THE WORLD OUTSIDE OF HIP-HOP....OH BUT THAT MIGHT BE HIP HOPS FAULT RIGHT....FUCK NO!!!!!! I watched all the links and read about this man......he was raised to think music was evil........and all he does during his sermons is demean and talk negativity about the culture....he didn't offer any resolution what-so-ever to the problem.......I felt nothing but negative vibes from this man!

And he can't tell me that when music is run backward is says something different.....thats pure idiocracy and craziness........I'm a person who relies on my knowledge for him being a preacher......all he does is fucks with people's minds.....that's how you get followers of BS.......so please don't fall in with the ignorance of the black church......the foundation of the black church itself needs some help.....you go research the shit he is talking about and see if it's true that we are demons invoking more demons......or that if we play pokemon they are channeling demons to your marriage.......WTF???!!!!!!

And how dare he speak about people's beliefs if you have never sat down and asked them.......all he is left with is what is written on paper! And how dare he judge other people's religions when he doesn't know if his own religion is right!!!!!!!
I'm pretty sure he never did research on who/and how many people wrote the bible....so please may I just say Jak contiune to do what you do......this man is full of shit!

First of all yall are only seeing the surface meaning of what he's sayin.

I am taking into consideration that some of his info is distorted by personal opinion, & his slandering of other gospel artists & ministers, TD Jakes, Yolanda Adams, Kirk Franklin etc & Christian Hip Hop as a genre, somewhat discredits his cause.....

BUT

the evidence he has is overwhelming

to say that Jay-Z is the anti-christ is probably not true in fact Dangermouse did that track with the backmask on the Grey Album... which was the only track i neverlisten to, in fact after hearing it the 1st time, i didnt know what it was so i deleted it becuz it wasnt music
BUT
if you can look beyond his personal feelings & absorb the information presented, its not just something i cant ignore.

I agree that theres something demonic about heavy metal, always have thought that

I dont believe he's saying that all the rappers are devil worshippers, but rather, WE have adopted a lifestyle of music that is not of God, SUBLIMINALY we are saying & advocating things we never could of imagined,

I thing the Bone Thugs thing has me the most fucked up.... what kind of reasoning do you have to battle that

& its not just hip hop, its Neo-Soul, its stuff from the 70s & 80s, He quoted KRS for writing "Stop worshipping Jesus Christ & calling his name out"..........im really confused cuz i thought KRS was a Christian, he works with gospel recording artists...

What hes sayin is that HipHop was built upon the principles of an Idol worshiping religion & in a sense we are worshiping false gods.... all of which orgin from satan

Lucifer was the Head angel in Heaven, his talent was music, music is to muse with sound, he convinced thousands angels WHO SAW God, to rebel against God, so that he could be worshipped, so if he can brainwash angels, WTH do you think he has already done to us

I am not TOTALLY convinced on GC Lewis, but hes given me somthing to think about.......

I still don't see in the ten commandments that hip hop is evil. Like you said he quoted KRS saying that, so what if he said it, I mean, it is wrong for him to say that when he is working with gospel singers, but anyone could of said what KRS said and does that make them in contact with the devil? He has his opinions and so does everybody else, just opinions. I am not a Heavy Metal fan, makes my ears hurt, some of it does sound crazy and act like they posses or something, but I don't think that is it, I just think Heavy metal lets you express the anger in a real loud way, lol.
