I watched Hana Yori Dango 3 years ago and simply fell in love with it. Makino, Domyouji the whole F4 gang. Unfortunately, I tried to spread my love and things went terribly wrong. I sent my friend online to find Hana Yori Dango and watch it but to my misfortune she stumbled upon the Korean version and fell in love with that stupid show and insists that it's the best. Well, everyone is entitled to their own opinion therefore I simply believe that Hana Yori Dango still rocks despite it's competitive remake.

Hana Yori Dango is the original (aside from the fact that there is a Taiwanese version as well) and sticks to the basic plot while Boys Before Flowers goes the extra mile to prove themselves (like competitors should yet they're just pushing it). I'm only up to episode 6 and I still don't see what the big deal is.

I just want to know what everyone's opinions on the two shows are.

Note: Please be considerate and understand that I'm just an opinionated fan and as I've stated above we are all entitled to our opinions. This topic is just for a friendly conversation about the Asian dramas we all love (Some more than others >.>)

I have watched all three version of the drama. My opinion for the Japanesse Vs Korean was that you can feel the chemistry between
the main cast in Japanesse version better than the Korean one. The main girl in Korean was annoying to me but Lee Min Ho did a great
job as the main actor. I think that's what ruined the Korean version. At least in the Japanesse version, I can feel the love between the main
cast.

But for my favorite would have to be the Taiwanesse Version because Jerry and Barbie was fantastic in that drama hand down.

I saw both the Japanese version and the Korean version and well I'm a fan of the japanese version. That was the first version I watched and the characters really were different than the korean version. I thought matsumoto jun did a really good job acting as domyouji. It made it seem like the character in the beginning was very rough and mean but later on you can see that he and the female character really like each other. ( sry, i don't remember the name of the girl) ><

I've seen all the live action versions (including the Mainland version) and I believe that Hana Yori Dango is the best. The writing was good, the acting was good for a J-drama, the leads has amazing chemistry and most of all I actually found F4's friendship believable.

HANA YORI DANGO all the way.

The Jap (HYD) cast might not be as pretty as the Korean's (BBF), but the acting in HYD is way better. The chemistry between Matsujun and mao are just great!!!! They look good together. On the other hand, the chemistry between lee min ho and the girl actress are not so great... seem awkward actually.
Though what i like about BBF is that they also tell story about the other couple - kim bum and the girl.

But i still prefer HYD cos they stick more to the manga (feels more original) and the story is less draggy as BBF (not saying BBF itself is draggy. actually i forgot..)

And another thing i like about HYD is the F4. I mean, they look like REAL friends you know? They seem to genuinely care about each other. While the F4 in BBF, they seem....coerced. Like, they are friends just bcos they are friends (for the sake of being friends). There are so many conflicts and they do not show much of the friendship. But somehow i can feel that friendship in F4 HYD - deep down despite it all, they still care for each other. I like the season 2 part whereby

Oh not forgetting Meteor Garden! I loved it way backk!! But only Season 1. Season 2 was...crappy. The chemistry between Jerry and Barbie were kind of great too!

Actually, i do LOVE all version in a way or another. Just that, i love HYD more than the rest, that's all.

I LOVE HYD. and the movie was a great ending to it all.

I agree with you. Jun x Mao are said to have a lot of chemistry, I was fine with Shun being the loser &+ the casts actually are pretty close friends in real life too, you could tell if you watch behind the scene stuff. I loved everything about HYD.

BBF is great, but I don't like the main casts together. Seeing Hyun Joong get dumped made me want to cry because I rather see him and the main girl together Lol. I never finished the drama tho...cause, ehh...

I've watched the Boys Over Flowers, Hana Yori Dango, 1/2 of Boys Before Flowers + I like HYD the best. (Not sure if it'll change once I finish Meteor Garden + the new one...Meteor Shower(?) though *

Hana Yori Dango is my favorite because it had this certain charm that the Boys Before Flowers lacked. Inoue Mao was able to adapt perfectly into the role of the audacious yet sweet Makino Tsukushi. However I couldn't see those qualities in Geum Jan Di. Maybe the screenwriters for Boys Over Flowers decided to overexaggerate the part that she wasn't rich and made her as uncharming as possible with the annoying facial expressions, mushroom haircut and slouchy posture. or maybe it was the actress who just couldn't pull it off. I really don't know.

The Japanese version was better since it was more like the Manga. And Matsujun (Though I'm not his fan) yet I admit that the role was perfect for him..
