Hmmm... I'm not sure about success, but I do know that soundtracks really help me enjoy dramas more. A great song will help get me through the draggy scenes. Just imagine having to watch all those long flashback scenes without great music. I particularly loved the ISWAK soundtrack. ISWAK was a pretty long drama and the great music got me through all those long dragging parts. I still listen to those songs practically everyday.

I think these have good music..
Coffee Prince (White Love Story)
Winter Sonata -- theme piano song
Nodame Cantabille--throughout the whole drama

I noticed they are mainly piano pieces...hmmmm

i think that the soundtracks help to promote the show especially if the singers are pretty famous.

well of course a good soundtrack helps a drama in success. for expample, most people find 1 litre of tears, the movie, to be quite boring compared to the series. and the reason for that is the soundtrack. the movie lacks the music that could persuade people's emotions unlike the drama. the first thing i did after watching the series was download the soundtrack. and everytime i listen to it, it brings back those raw emotional feelings i had while watching the drama. even tough the movie was good and has the exact same storyline as the series, most do perfer the series. but as a few people said before, it's mainly the good looking characters that has a greater impact on a drama.
cause ERIKA is just too hot.

It does, especially when sad songs are coupled with sad scenes. I still have a faint memory of the song in Autumn Tale and also Summer Scent. ISWAK also had gd soundtracks.

I dont think the success of a drama will be effected by soundtracks BUT good soundtrack selections will have a longer after-feeling effect and scenes from the drama will stay longer in your memory & so does ur feeling while watching it. So in the end we (consumer) will say this & tht movie/drama was good & so forth and watch them over & over again...sagashi ne<_<

But if you are into arts/performing arts etc. you can just watch any drama/movie disregard of the quality of its soundtracks/effects and able to justify true quality of the performance/story beyond the presence of your fav/ever popular idols & not being bias

i'm a total music lover, so yes, for me, the soundtrack affects the way i perceive the drama.

hana yori dango, meteor garden, ikemen paradise, and it started with a kiss have excellent music, which add color and life to the story.

for me, the drama has to have a good storyline then you can appreciate their ost's....
but sometimes there also dramas that have good ost's but bad story...
winter sonata, stairway to heaven, full house, summer scent have good ost's so i really did feel the music.... made me cry too...
spring waltz's ost was good but never really did finish that drama coz it was just plain boring.... if it hadn't starred good looking celebrities then i think no one wouldn't have been interested enough to wach it....
well... that's what i think....

i think it's vital...imagine watching a movie without a soundtrack...it goes with the story or even at times makes the story worth watching...

I really do think so I mean in Hana Yori Dango season 2, When Flavor of Life was played by Utada Hikaru, ratings went high up.I also agree though that it depends on who's in the soundtrack.
