Just a mini survey and discussion about all of CR users' rate of energy intake. I've been reading some nutritional studies lately and been curious where the best balance of energy lies in since I'm in a state where I seem to require too much simple carbs in my diet to function. I'm curious what others are doing and how they control their energy.

I don't drink soda, and I eat 1 or 2 snacks each day.

Hmm...it's usually like twice a day

I only do when I go to Starbucks, which is 2 to 3 times per week

No

----I drink about 4 Can's of Diet Soda a day, not much of a junk food type person but am known to munch on chips and cracks once in a while.

----maybe 2-3 times a week

--- not too much, i have maybe 2-3 cups of coffee or tea week.

----Yes, too much sugar and caffeine makes me jittery.

On average, how many cans of soda, snacks, and junk food do you eat a day? --- I rarely drink soda or eat junk food, I snack mostly on water & oranges usually several oranges a day.

How often do you consume junk food (every hour, every 2 hours, etc)? Once in a while... maybe once a week

How much caffiene do you take in? --- I drink coffee but mostly decaf, tea which is herbal so also mostly decaf... I guess I don't really do a lot of caffeine either.

Do you often experience a "crash" (when your body being fatigued after sugar intake)? ---- Yes, if I eat a lot of junk or sweets I crash hard about an hour later, I hate that feeling which is part of the reason I don't do sweets

How much water do you consume per day? ---- The doctor told me today that I'm drinking too much water... causing my potassium to get low so from now on I get no more than 8 bottles a day. :-) I'm sort of a water addict so it's going to be tough for me to cut back.

A certain amount of sugar is good for the brain since it needs glucose. Complex carbohydrates are fuel for your body.

I don't like caffeine, but when I drink sodas, that's how much I consume.

----40mg? (several cups of green tea? from the same leaves? not sure about the mg amount)

----Not from sugar (barely eat any except what's in fruit or veggies) but after a large meal with complex carbs, yes

As an aside, I usually eat a "global peasant diet" of whole grains, legumes, fruits, vegetables, no more than a pound or so of meat per week, and no processed or prepared food (eat out once per 3 months or so). For the past 4 weeks, however, I have been trying to stay on a somewhat paleo diet, which not only throws out processed food but also anything that existed past the invention of agriculture. In particular, basically no complex carbohydrates of any kind, no grains, no legumes, no dairy, no carbs that aren't already in fruit or sugar. It is not as strict as say, a full Atkins weight loss diet, but I found it pretty miserable. No rice -- not even brown? No whole wheat bread? No whole grain wraps? No noodes... ever? There's really nothing to cook except grilling meat, and I don't eat much of that. I did lose some weight and fat without any extra exercise, although that may have just been from not eating maintenance calories. I really didn't find it worth it, given hating my diet, not being able to cook, and such low energy levels. I'm also not sure about the health benefits of relying THAT much on fatty sources for your calories (meat, nuts, so-called "good" oils, etc.).

None, I'm not allowed sugary things because of my ADHD but am allowed in moderation and diet coke/lemonade

None, again my ADHD is quite serious and caffeine makes me go crazy so its a big NO

A lot of everything. I have at least one can of soda, and around two packages of cookies or a chocolate bar.

Twice a day. Between breakfast and lunch and before supper.

A LOT. I usually have two or three cups of coffee. If a don't drink coffee in the morning I have a can of soda with my lunch.

Not quite often. Only if I didn't sleep the night before and I try to make it up with sugar.. well it gets worst.

Less than a litre (a third of a galon). Yeah...I know is too little.

I'm a very unhealthy person. I've tried to cut down on sweets but I like them too much.
My girlfriends hate me for eating so many candies and junk food and not putting on weight. On the contrary, I only get thinner.
