i really can't relate to how the otaku feel. the only way i can really justify this is by comparing it to how little teenage groupies get sad and cry when their favorite actor or singer starts dating somebody. but the fans are usually children or young adults, not full grown men who should know how to deal with something as menial as somebody they don't even know personally or even met not being a virgin. i find their reactions to be worrying. i am concerned for this young woman's safety.

the problem is most hardcore otakus have some sort of mental issue or defect so thus they are going to act like children.

I'll copy and paste something that I read to help educate those who dont really understand what an otaku is. For me a long time I thought otaku was just an anime fan but I seems I was wrong

Otaku subculture of Japan has been influencing the college age generation of the world for the last 20 years or so. There has got to be an effect especially when almost every college has an Anime Club. It not just a Japanese subculture anymore.

You do realize that Otaku is not a Japanicized synonym for nerd or geek, right? You also realize that Otaku doesn't mean "Someone who like watching Japanese cartoons and reading Japanese comics," right?

It's a totally different beast, and not at all like relatively well adjusted anime geeks in the US.

The geeks are the engine behind the information revolution, sure, but the Otaku are the no-lifers who sit at home afraid to talk to other humans, make friends with inflatable toys and read animated kiddy porn. Not exactly the engine of a future revolution.

In a sense these guys never grew up they sat dreaming about this one person who they have idolized for as long as they can remember then to hear that the person they thought they knew was nothing but a lie to them of course they'd flip out. Their world has piratically just been crushed in an instant. Tho they get no pity from me its just sad that its so common over there.

You guys don't know what her life was like prior to the release of her statements.
Perhaps she wanted to get rid of that crazy fan base to begin with and had a heart shattering lie/truth published for that very reason.
Perhaps it was that very fan base preventing her from making progress in her career. Just sit back, relax and watch the show.
If anything, most hermit otakus are all talk anyway

Haruhi MUST NOT DIE!!!

If she does give up voice acting I would jump the hate bandwagon right away. As for what she does with her private life I don't really care, as long as she continues to voice Haruhi and sing themes I'm happy.

*sigh* She can do whatever the hell she want to. She's her own person. In fact I like her slightly better because it gives a hard shock of reality to all the crazy fanboy/girls out there that need something to wake them up. Hell, if Justin Beaver came out and said something like this I would slightly respect him....but not much respect....but it still would be funny as hell to see all the crazy fangirls go even more crazy because of it rofl.

So the voice actress any hirano wants to do more things with her life and become something more than just a voice actress. Below is some information about her.

"Voice actress Aya Hirano doesn't seem to want to be a voice actress anymore. The 22-year-old is trying to make the leap to mainstream celebrity and ticking off her rabid fan-base in the process.

Hirano is best known for voicing schoolgirl character Haruhi Suzumiya in the animation adaptation of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. She has also voiced schoolgirl character Konata in the Lucky Star anime. In Japan, voice actors and voice actresses are generally a big deal among anime fans and gamers.

Hirano has also done plenty of voice work for games, including the Haruhi and Lucky Star games, Luminous Arc, Magna Carta II, Yakuza 4, Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology 3 and the Japanese voice location for Assassin's Creed II."

The Tidbit below is what's really pissing otakus off the most:

"In a recent appearance on "Goût Temps Nouveau", a Japanese program for women, Hirano has confessed to liking and dating older men, talked about her ex-boyfriend who cheated on her and dating with several different partners at the same time."

So for those of you that don't get it, it's not the fact that she no longer wants to be a voice actress it's the fact that she has had sex and even with multiple partners at the same time. Due to the out rage "otakus" have broken there merchandise and even issued death threats against her because that she is no longer a virgin "pure". Below is some of the ragedom

This is not a new thing to happen in japan with female and yea even male vocal actors. So what are your thoughts and opinions on this? I think that this is sad state of affairs that people act in this manner.

ah hell no, I dont mind her personal sexual life. but to stop being the voice of Haruhi? thats harsh. hopefully she will finish the series then stop.

So wait.....she is saying that she NOW wants to actually start her career? What is voice acting just a part-time job? If you want to voice a character but don't want to become too attached....then I suggest not volunteering to voice some of the most meaningful characters that Otaku's love to this day. I know this seems kinda like an ignorant statement...but seriously....this is kinda like a big F U to the fans.

^That is part of my mind that supports the Otaku's claim.

And another thing. "Hirano has confessed to liking and dating older men, talked about her ex-boyfriend who cheated on her and dating with several different partners at the same time." Wait what? Correct me if I just misread this sentence...but did she just say she complained about how her ex-boyfriend cheated on her.....but yet she herself has dated with several different partners at the same time? What the hell? No wonder Japanese men like using LovePlus if thats how the women in Japan are.

Now of course....its her life so she can do whatever she wants right? Yes of course. 100%. As long as she doesnt ABRUPTLY stop. Which it seems she isnt going to do so...she is letting us down lightly. So thats the best course of action. But I mean its obvious if your a popular idol at anything in Japan....your probably going to want your fan-base to think your pure and all. But in all honesty....it really is her own life and she can do whatever the hell she wants....its just a shame to all the Otaku though....and for me since there won't be Haruhi Suzumiya anymore.

^This is part of my mind that supports Aya Hirano

Also, I dont like celebrities in general

And now my complete selfish opinion is this......I don't like celebrities in general....but I would love to see her stay a voice actor.

Bottom line is this. This sucks

I Believe you mean Justin Beiber.

But yeah you make a good point, time for rabid fanboys/girls to be taught a lesson. While I do not have much respect for celebs in general (they are just arrogant, self indulging snobs who put on an facade on TV), I like Aya as a VA and I think she does a good job and I'll be devastated if she stopps voicing Haruhi.

Personally I don't think she would though, With the large revenues the franchise generates, KyoAni can pay her pretty well, and in the end that's all VA's are interested in nowadays...
