Overall, most people are kind and open-minded enough to not think Muslims are bad but it's a certain powerful minority and almost all of the not-bothered-to-care working class that can lead to serious discrimination.

Nothing is wrong with Muslims. People only think they are bad because of what some muslims do/ did. But really, I don't think people should judge people because of their religion. Once my Dad told me that once when he was a kid, he was very good friends with this guy. But when his family turned into Jehovah Witnesses or whatever they called, his friend couldn't see him anymore. I mean wtf? I don't hate them or anything, but yeah! That's sorta rude! Jehovah Witness people only hang out with people that are the same religion. That's loads of crap. And they come to our frckin house to try to make us into Jehovah Witnesses! I'm sorry for those who are Jehovah Witness, maybe not all of you guys are like that... but still. I don't hate any religions, but sometimes they make me pissed. Like I was reading this magazine that was Christian I think, and there was stuff about 2012. They said that everyone who was not Christian will go to hell or rot on the earth. And it also said that God is the only god, all the other gods are not real. Fuck that. I think many people switch to Buddhism because they aren't so pushy and all that. I myeslf is not Buddhist, but still... From the sounds of it. When I go to the church there are so many people, that said that they were once Christians/ Muslims/ Catholic and they said its better where they are now. Please don't hate me or anything, but I'm just saying what I feel. I don't hate Christians, Muslims, Catholics, Buddhists, or any religious people! Tons of my friends are Buddhist and Christian!! As long as they aren't dicks then it's all good.

its the fact that holy scriptures of muslim & islam are so restrictive of certain peoples freedoms (mainly women) that it scares people to think they may believe that. and praying everyday (koran believers) seems a bit excessive to outsiders
I know the praying actually comes from the story in koran where, angel gabriel took a human to the holy land, and the man came back with a "way to communicate" to god by praying so it became routine for ppl of the religion, but it seems more like a cult to many people than just showing respect to god.

Its not necessarily the muslims themselves its the extremist groups that people dont like The ones that want to force everyone to obey shariya law, groups like hammas, al qeda, plo - though they mostly want to just kill the jews in israel. Theres another group thats slipping my mind at the moment too.

There are different versions of the muslim religion too. Theres the "orthodox" which is closer to the shariya law obeying type, and theres the more liberal (ie not orthodox) muslims that allow their women to hold jobs and dont force them to wear sheets over their heads, dont murder their daughters if they get raped... numerous other atrocities against women that the extremist groups commit.

As long as they arent trying to force people to obey shariya law, or arent treating their wives sisters and daughters like mindless baby factories with no rights, I have no problem with them. In my city there arent very many that I have come across, so I cant say I know any though.

islam doesn't say dat a woman can't work............!!! Our last prophet's wife was in the business of trade , as in, export / import...................!!! so islam has given women every type of freedom............!!! before islam, women weren't treated as human beings................after the death of a man, his wife was passed through inheritance to his sons............!!! in that era, the order of Hijab (covering a woman from head to toe only when going out ) came!!! that was only for a woman's own protection...............!!! nd islam has never been a forcefull religion........!!!! in islam.............we hv been shown the right path but everyone is responsible for his/her own actions after dat........... whether they choose the right or wrong path..................!!!

You need to know the religion to claim something like this. Im sorry, but i'm a muslim woman and i don't agree with you. Islam promotes the equlaity of men and women. "outsiders" consider it as excessive or scary because they don't understand the basis of it.

Islam is an easy religion, it's the people who make it hard to follow.

Do things rightly and well...thats it really. Follow the five principles of Islam: prayers, charity, fast in the month of Ramadaan, acknowledge that there is no God but Allah and Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) is his one and only messenger and follow the faith properly, and go for pilgrimage to Makkah at least once in your whole life if possible. Everything else falls under these categories and its pretty easy to follow.

I live in a western world and i don't find it hard at all (unless i have a class at a prayer time, but then i can make up for that prayer later).

The story about Gabriel and the human (who happens to be our Prophet by the way) has a lot more to it then you have written there. And the prayers aren't a routine, it's a way for us to feel a connection to our God and know that He is there for us. Many pray, and many don't - And I myself have found that having faith in God helps in many ways (this is a personal experience for me).

So yea, it may look like a cult to outsiders/non-muslims, because they understand the basis of the religion. There isn't anything cult-ish about it actually... Just the same old religion stuff that happens in every other religion.
