Rain likely to star in a movie prior to military enlistment

World superstar Rain will most likely be participating in a movie remake of Red Scarf which was first released all the way back in 1964.

Although the details aren’t set in stone yet, there’s a very high possibility that he will indeed partake in playing the main character.

Rain had previously received a draft notice, letting him know that he had to enlist in the army on September 28th of this year. But because he will most likely play the main character in Red Scarf, and is also currently obtaining his master’s degree, many expect that the star will be able to postpone the mandatory duties.

Rain is currently filming for the KBS Drama Fugitive which is scheduled to air next month.

Rain clarifies his position on the controversy with JTune Entertainment

With singer and actor Rain embroiled in a controversy with his own company, he has recently come forward with a clarification on the case, but it seems like the public won’t be so understanding.

On the 31st, Rain explained his side of the story through an interview with a press company, “I’m not a manager, I’m just an investor that invested in myself.“ He confessed his thoughts and feelings on the pressure that was put on him when he never participated in the actual managing aspect of the company. Rain also revealed that he’s raised the profits of his company and has changed the sales distribution, from what was originally a 7:3 ratio to a 5:5 ratio, in order to give shareholders a larger profit.

However, netizens remain divided on the issue. Those that support his changes have stressed that Rain is accepting a 5:5 profit distribution ratio.

Some netizens have supported his decision by leaving comments such as, “If it’s 5:5, he’s basically no better than a rookie. From Rain’s standpoint, he’s going to be losing billions of dollars,” “There’s never been any other business owner or board of director that has shown this much responsibility,” and “It’s a huge sacrifice he’s making.”

The entire controversy began last July when it was revealed that Rain, the largest shareholder of JTune Entertainment, sold his security holdings while the company was in a deficit. The public has brought up a variety of opinions on the issue, with some thinking that it was the right choice, and others considering it a disappointment.

Netizens continued to leave comments, stating, “He’s always acted like he was a perfectionist, so it’s disappointing to see him come out with excuses now and act like he had no idea,” “He should know that as the largest shareholder of a one-man company that his actions largely affect the worth of his stock and profits. Rain’s recent clarification just seems like he’s cut out his apology and instead emphasized what he’s losing,” and “Please show us more responsible actions if you consider yourself a top star.”

On the contrary, netizens have also supported him by leaving comments such as, “Rain is also a normal human being. Why would he do nothing as his investments are being lost? It was right for him to sell them,” “It’s Rain’s fault that the prices of the company’s stocks dropped because of a major shareholder liquidating all of his share, but we need to take note that the law has not yet decided his guilt or innocence,” and “I can see why his actions would be intolerable, but it’s too late to take back the crime anyway.”

Pop star Rain in Manila to also to shot drama series

Asian pop star Rain (aka Jung Ji Hoon) is creating a buzz ahead of his “Intensity” concert on Sept. 11 at the SM Mall of Asia open grounds.

Besides the concert, Rain is in the country shooting scenes for “Fugitive,” his action drama of which the story revolves around money that reappeared 60 years after the Korean War.

Rain arrived in Manila from Cebu last Sept. 4.

The “Fugitive” features an international cast. Besides Rain, it also includes Lee Na-Young, Lee Jeong-jin, Daniel Henney, Hong Kong actor Ti Lung, Japanese actors Naoto Takenaka and Uehara Takako and Chinese actress Josie Ho.

The drama will have its pilot episode on Sept. 29 on KBS.

Rain’s schedule is full until the end of the year. He is doing all activities before his scheduled enlistment in the Korean military in early 2011.

He was originally scheduled to enter the military this year but his request to postpone his enlistment has been granted by Korea’s Military Manpower Administration.

Filipino fans will finally get to see Rain on Saturday in the concert. The “Intensity” concert will also feature K-pop boy band U-Kiss and singer Christian Bautista as special guest.

No sign of Rain: no-show has Filipino fans feeling the drought

Fans in Manila were immensely disappointed with singer/actor Rain yesterday, as he failed to appear for a press conference at the Manila Hotel.

The conference was scheduled for 2pm, yet was cancelled at the last minute by Rain’s staff due to a ‘miscommunication’ between their agency and the Filipino organizers, they said. “There was a misunderstanding; it was supposed to be September 9th… not September 6th. The interpreter got it wrong.”

Though the meet was rescheduled for the 9th, reactions to the absence have the Manila press calling it a ‘snub’; several sources even claim to have seen Rain swimming in the hotel pool as his representatives were making the official announcement.

Rain is in the Philippines for his one-show concert, Intensity, on the night of the 11th with special guest U-KISS and Pinoy ballad artist Christian Bautista. It’s also been revealed that he’s currently filming in the country for a new KBS2 drama series titled “Fugitive”, set to air on the 28th.

Rain & JYP Entertainment found “Not Guilty”

Rain and his former agency, JYP Entertainment, were found ‘not guilty’ on the 9th regarding a compensation claim launched by Well Made Star M.

The Department of Justice read out the sentence, stating,

“The responsibilities of the cancellation of the North American performances lies with Star M. JYP Entertainment and Rain do not have to refund the pre-payments. This applies not only for the North American performances; Star M will be held responsible for the China cancellations as well, since Star M was the side that planned the entire tour.”

In 2006 and 2007, Rain planned a world tour with Star M, totaling 35 different performances. However, due to problems arising from his name ‘Rain,’ his performances in America were canceled, concluding the tour with only 19 fulfilled performances.

Star M claimed that both JYP Entertainment and Rain did not fulfill their contractual obligations and launched a compensation claim for approximately $3,915,018 USD.

The court of first instance stated, “The reason behind the cancellations of the American performances is because Star M did not properly handle the infringement dispute,” and ruled against the plaintiff.

Rain, Daniel Henney Talk About Their Korean Drama ‘Fugitive'

MANILA, Philippines -
Asian pop star Rain and Korean-American actor-model Daniel Henney were interviewed on TV5's "Paparazzi" about their experiences in the Philippines, work and personal life.

The two are in the country to shoot scenes for "Fugitive," a co-production of Domangja and TV5. The film tells the story of Jiwoo (played by Rain), a famous investigator assigned to solve the mysterious death of an Asian couple in Las Vegas.

“I went to six cities in five countries in shooting the ‘Fugitive’. It’s like a movie schedule,” Rain told “Paparazzi.”

Henney, on the other hand, said his character in the drama is like a puppet master.

“This is the character they’ve never seen. This is most difficult character I’ve played in a Korean drama till now. This guy holds the keys. He plays the puppet master, which is very difficult for me because I have to know every single storyline,” Henney said.

“Fugitive” will be Rain’s comeback to the Korean drama scene. His last drama was “A Love To Kill” which was shown in 2005. Rain shot to fame when he did the drama “Full House” in 2004.

Despite the sweltering temperature, Rain and Henney said they are enjoying their stay in the Philippines.

“I love Manila even before especially Cebu. I’m also recommending to my other friends to visit the Philippines. I love it here,” Rain told DJ Mo.

For Henney, he will never forget a memorable night in Boracay.

“We were in Boracay one night, I remember. We finished the shoot. We had a boat that was kinda off the shore. The flying fish. I’ll never forget it. We were swimming with the flying fish. It’s like forever embedded in my mind. And the beautiful white sand.”

Henney also revealed that he doesn’t have a girlfriend at the moment.

Asked if he will consider having a Filipina girlfriend, Henney said “Of course, why not?”

For him, the most important thing is that the girl should have a sense of humor.

He said his family grew up in an atmosphere that can be likened to “Saturday Night Live,” a comedy and variety show in the US.

“Laughter is very important. (The girl should be) Down to earth but cool at the same time,” he said.

For Rain, his priority right now is his career. He is doing all his celebrity activities before he enters the Korean military early next year.

Rain said he is focusing on his singing and acting careers.

“I will continue singing and acting. But I’m looking forward to show you guys more…a better Rain,” he said.

Rain says done lifetime's worth of running for "Fugitive"

Asian pop sensation Rain, who is constantly on the run as a fugitive in upcoming TV series "Fugitive Plan B," has said he has had to run so much that he has probably done a lifetime's worth of running.

In the romantic comedy investigative action series about a conspiracy involving a hefty sum of money going missing in times of the Korean War 60 years ago, Rain plays Gee-woo, a private detective at an international secret agency who becomes pegged as the murderer of his own old friend.

"Lee Jung-jin and my relationship is that of a chaser and the chased so we really ran a lot... I've done a lifetime's worth of running," the singer and actor told media outlets during a press conference for the drama held in Seoul on Monday.

He explained, however, that the action sequences were "not too tough to handle" after having received a year's worth of grueling training in Hollywood for Wachowski Brothers' pic "Ninja Assassin" last year which had left him with zero percent body fat.

The downside, he said, was that the show's director Gwak Jeong-hwan of hit drama "The Slave Hunters" fame, was becoming increasingly expectant of their performance.

"He was doubtful of us pulling off the action sequences at first but after we succeeded the first few times, he now thinks we can do anything and so just yesterday, we jumped over a wall three meters high," Rain jokingly complained.

From the start of the press conference, Rain had expressed his excitement over working with Gwak and writer Chun Sung-il, the mastermind duo behind "The Slave Hunters" which he claimed to have been a fan of.

Starring Jang Hyuk, Oh Ji-ho and Lee Da-hae, the show hit viewership ratings of nearly 36 percent during its two-month run from January this year and was lauded by critics for its strong storyline and beautiful scenes produced through the use of a Red One camera.

Rain, whose real name is Jung Ji-hoon, rose to stardom throughout Asia through his solo singing career in 2002, but has made several solid acting appearances on the small screen as well including "Sang Doo! Let's Go to School" and "Full House."

"Fugitive," a 20-part series featuring a multinational cast of Korean actors Lee Na-young, Daniel Henney, Lee Jung-jin, Kong Hyung-jin, Yoon Son-ha, Hong Kong-'s Ti Lung, China's Josei Ho, and Japanese actors Takenaka Naoto and Uehara Takako, will premiere on September 29 on KBS.

New Wednesday-Thursday drama, Fugitive (also known as Runaway Plan B), has raked in an impressive 20.7% in viewer ratings for its first episode.

To receive such high numbers for the first episode is very rare. The hype was futher amplified when it was revealed that the drama was a collaborative effort between esteemed director Kwak Jung Hwan and screenwriter Chun Sung Il, who have teamed up once before in ‘Chuno‘.

During the broadcast, Chuno’s Lee Da Hae and Oh Ji Ho made cameo apperances, which made the episode more interesting.

Rain’s gambling controversy worsens as allegations of foreign currency laundering arise

Rain’s recent gambling controversy has taken a shocking turn, as more and more witnesses are surfacing to attest against the international star.

Sports Seoul was able to meet with “A”, an individual who was not only related to Rain’s concert activities, but also provided the star with some gambling funds. “A” was involved in Rain’s world tour concert activities in Las Vegas, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Thailand, Japan, and Los Angeles.

According to “A”, Rain went to play baccarat at the Bellagio Hotel during his Las Vegas concert in December 2006, and again before his June 2007 Los Angeles concert. At the time, Rain visited the casino with both his company and concert representatives, as well as staff members. Reportedly, the star also went up to the VIP room.

“A” stated, “Between the end of 2006 and June 2007, Rain went to Las Vegas about three times. Even Andrew Kim, the guy who brought up this issue, was with Rain during these times. The betting amount during 2006 initially was small. However, as time went by, large sums of money came and went.”

Surprising accounts regarding the gambling funds have also been made. “A” revealed, “A representative who was in charge of managing the concert used at least $200,000 for funds. When the person ran out of money, they exchanged the money for $5,000 to $10,000 of chips at a time.”

“A” explained, “At the time, Rain was trying to become independent from JYP. Entertainment companies who were trying to recruit Rain spent lavishly on him in order to work with him. It was nothing out of the ordinary for him to use those huge sums of money for his betting sums. Rain lightly took the money and spent it.”

A representative who supervised Rain’s world tour, “B”, is currently under investigation for violations made against the “Foreign Exchange Control Act“. It has been exposed that “B” gave and received money that was undeclared and will be fined $10,000.

“A” stated, “Rain received his bacarrat funds mainly from “B”. In order to supply Rain with his gambling funds, “B” illegally converted undeclared money into chips for him after getting money wired to him.”

“A’s” testimony is similar to that of Andrew Kim’s, who reported that Rain had a serious gambling problem and was indebted to him. Kim revealed in October, “The reason why Rain is not paying me back is because he does not think he borrowed money from me. Rain does not, ever, gamble with his own money.”

In short, “A” explained that Rain usually accepts and doesn’t pay back his gambling funds, because he feels as if the funds “were given to him rightfully.”

The legal ramifications of the controversy lies in the fact that according to a precedent established by the Supreme Court, it is considered a violation if instead of cash, illegally bought chips were used to gamble. Chips may be bought at the casinos, but they must be bought with declared money if the player is not a resident of the host nation.

According to the Supreme Court’s ruling back in 2004, “Using chips instead of cash in casinos is the same as loaning money.”

A representative of the Korean Police Department’s section of Foreign Affairs stated, “It does not matter whose money was used for gambling. If there’s a witness from the gambling site, we can begin an investigation.”

Through a phone call with Sports Seoul, a representative of Rain’s entertainment company, J Tune Entertainment stated, “We have nothing to say over the phone regarding gambling.”

Rain will not attend the ‘2010 MAMA’

It was recently revealed that Rain will not be attending the ‘2010 Mnet Asian Music Awards‘ (MAMA).

A J.Tune representative revealed on November 15th, “Due to ongoing filming schedules for his drama, ‘Fugitive‘, Rain is unable to attend the ‘2010 MAMA’.”

The ‘2010 MAMA’ is being billed by Mnet as one of the biggest award shows in Asia; it’s also being brought overseas for the first time in its history, as the venue is located in Macau for November 28th.

The show has already been hit with a consistent string of controversies, as many artists (such as CNBLUE) have been withdrawing their participation from the program. SM Entertainment has yet to respond about whether or not their artists will be attending this event, but it seems more likely than not that they will be missing it once again this year.

Rain + Shin Se Kyung confirmed for upcoming film, “The Red Muffler”

Rain and Shin Se Kyung have been chosen for the leading roles in an upcoming blockbuster film, “The Red Muffler.”

Directed by Kim Dong Won, the film is said to be costing $10 million USD in production expenses alone. With tensions rising due to the recent Yeonpyeong Island skirmish, there’s been increasing focus on this film since it features a story about attacking Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea.

A representative of the movie’s investment company revealed to Newsen on December 6th, “Rain personally chose ‘The Red Muffler’ as his last project before entering his military service. The leading female role will be played by Shin Se Kyung.”

The film is currently nicknamed the “Lee Mi Kyung Project” due to the amount of time and effort the CJ Entertainment CEO is putting into it.

Rain will be playing the role of ‘Taehoon,’ a fighter pilot, while Shin Se Kyung plays his love interest ‘Sae Young,’ an auto mechanic.

Another representative of the movie revealed, “Rain has completed his contract, but Shin Se Kyung has yet to sign her contract due to issues such as guarantees. The title of the movie could also be changed to ‘Living in the Sky.‘”

The filming process should begin as early as January 2011.
