Its not up to you to say whether god does or does not exist. Let people believe what they want and don't impose your opinions on others.

hey seraph, arent you christian? youre bordering heresy there with your he/she/it deal! hahahahah

okay so the origin of species is flawed. true that. but its not like everyone reads it. they refer to it, and when something challenges it, they change it for the better. thats for progression.

ok assuming there is a beginning..but beginning and end are just words we use to try and put time into perspective. time is linear; i think it may have been einstein who said so. and there maybe a being that lives outside of time. but thats where i stop. MAYBE there is a being out there. but being the agnostic, i really require proof and seeing as that may not come soon, i just disregard it. i guess im more of a realist than an optimist..i think things happen because you made them happen, not some divine being moving us, you get?

o crap, i lost my trail of thought. will get back to it LOL

edit:

THATS HOW PEOPLE LEARN is what i wanted to say. they have to find out that the information given to them was not exactly true. THE WORLD WAS FLAT. people believed it so but when a new plausible idea was given, it was not completely accepted. then more proof. same with evolution OR religion. it has to be proven. and i think this is where the argument lies. you can hate me now seraph. while science allows its ideas to be tested and proven wrong to change, religion may have been proven wrong (some may argue), but they wont change. that, my friend, is what you people call faith. and more power to you for that. but thats what i think.

Yes, I am a Christian, but I wasn’t speaking from a Christian standpoint. I was speaking from a generally religious standpoint, including all religious ideologies.

Anywho, your post is very true in its statements, I feel. Te difference between religion and science is that science evolves with proof and circumstances, where religion is pretty much set in rock and solid. Perhaps this is why people have come to associate religion with being narrow minded?

Well, I respect you agnostic ways, but would for the sake of conversation I would like to challenge them.

“I think, therefore I am.” (Yes I said that before, no I don’t know who it comes from, yes I’d love to know who said it so I can properly cite it.) There is no proof for you that I exist. None for me that you exist. For me I think and so I am proof that I exist, but I could be imagining you. Same thing on your end.

This being said do you assume that I don’t really exist because there is no proof that I exist. The world is the same. If a tree falls in a forest does it make a noise?

Way to jump down the wrong guy’s throat. That post was in retaliation to these following and childish rhapsodies:

Hey seraph, no offence but your threads aren't too popular. Look, religion is most likely total B.S. but people want something to believe in. Most of them probably know it's fake, but they want hope that their lives weren't for nothing, and that there is actually paradise out there.

TRUE religion is just B.S.

and

there is no god and i will say it again THERE IS NO GOD.

If we’re going to play the ignorant jackasses who think they know everything game: There is a god. You dumbass atheists are just to stupid to realize it even though hints of it are all around you!

I don’t really feel that way but it’s a taste of their own medicine for the two posters I quoted above.

Anyway I’ve seen what I regard as personal proof that there is a God. Not necessarily proof of my God, but of divine power and divine intervention amongst us.

Ever since this thread started, it has never been on topic (of slightly has)...

Anyway, I'll give my two cents worth. The Darwinian theory, I believe, is only a stepping stone in knowledge. As much as it has a couple half-truths, it gives us a way of looking into how things came about. Evolution is plausible, it makes sense, it gives us an understanding of the world around us, but it doesn't give us proof to how things came into being.

It is like the origin of the universe. We can't say for sure that a big bang caused it or whatnot because no one was there to witness it. We can only give theories or clues as to what was the possibility... and with that, we gain a means of understanding or simply looking at it, not necessarily grasping it.

Same thing with religion. One party will argue there is no god, the other will argue there is. The result is that we have different means of looking at the world with no solid proof to refute either side. Why? Because God (or Gods) cannot be seen in this material world. All I ask from everyone, be you christian, jew, hindu or aetheist, is to view the world and the opinions and sentiments of every human being with an open mind.

If you have ever read the Origin of Species, then I really commend you for it. That is some dense stuff right there that most people have no idea about. They just take assumptions or summaries and make all their arguments from it. That's why we have all these social Darwinists.

Personally, your scientific threads aren't popular because half the time it's me posting random shit that no one understands. Most of the people just don't understand the aspects of it that require more than "feelings" and "devotion." I mean you can believe in God all you want, but that feeling you get is not proof enough to form an effective argument. It might be true, but doesn't prove anything definitively.

I don't get how the theory of natural selection is losing its significance/usefulness. It is a hypothesis that provides a broad generalization of life in general. Of course there are going to be exceptions for something that tries to encompass such an abstract idea.

Once again, A-man!

I strongly agree. There was this Druid man who talked about science. Science is just a new form of magic, is another breed of religion. The man said that Druid's viewed magic as a way to view the word, like Christians view God as a way to explain the world, as scientists use physics to comprehend the world.

@Jam: I've skimmed it... :p, I'm no better than those other people.

Well, that probably is true about my threads.

Anyway it's not the natural selection portion of Darwin's theory that dwindles, but there is more to his theory than just that.

^ ^ That's very true. More often than not, more discoveries are showing exceptions to Darwinian theory and even some fundamental biological concepts (this is why scientists are debating about the current arrangement of the different biological domains).

About religion, I suggest reading C. S. Lewis' Mere Christianity and other related works. Surely, simply having a "oh I believe in God! He is so good!" yada yada feeling is a far cry from an effective means of reasoning his existence, but there are different ways of proving (or disproving) His/Her existence, which is why I said it becomes a statement of belief more than an evidence of proof.

U know u are just using that divine power just to get away from the real truth about life, cause u can find hope anywhere else. Anyway i know i am not going to change ur mind cause u think a little book that came from million years ago is going to help u, well ur wrong u are ur own god or divine power no one else is.

^ You're being extremely unreasonable here. Being incredibly narrow minded makes you look pretty idiotic. Learn to be accepting of others' beliefs rather than forcing them to think otherwise.

Back'd up. :3 If you're going to be a crazy atheism idiot, then just leave the forums. The vast majority doesn't like people like you.
