Okay so when i first started college i was really not sleeping as much as i should
i used to think that staying up really late is not such a bad thing to do
how wrong i was.... i started losing my memory like i would forget where i left my bag, coat, hat... even lunch, what i was talking about... in the end i ended up losing a LOT of stuff... i found out deferentially that lack of sleep was the cause of it all lol

1 - Depression: Sleep-deprived children have longer illnesses, more severe depression, and greater fatigue than those who are not sleep deprived. Other studies link sleep deprivation with self esteem problems as well. Getting good quality sleep and curing insomnia helps with fight depression and increase self esteem.

2 - Weight gain: If you are losing sleep, your body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference are likely to increase. Your risk of becoming obese is almost doubled, according to Professor Francesco Cappuccio of Warwick Medical School. He detected this trend in adults and kids as young as five years old. Getting good sleep can help you lose weight. Sleep deprivation increases appetite through hormonal changes. Specifically, more of the appetite-increasing ghrelin is produced when you are not getting good sleep and less of the appetite-suppressing leptin is produced. Sleep deprivation and insomnia naturally cause you to eat more.

3 - Memory loss: Dr. Jeffrey Ellenbogen of the Harvard Medical School found that sleep protects memories from interference. The more quickly you fall asleep after studying for a test or learning a new skill, the more likely you are to remember it later. If you learn new information and then go about your daily business, you will have about a 44 per cent lower chance of retaining what you have learned. This research could be particularly helpful when you are learning a new job. Getting good sleep helps your memory, while sleep deprivation damages it.

4 - Intellectual impairment: Researchers at the University of Virginia have found that insomnia or lack of sleep can impair IQ and cognitive development in children. Lower grades and poor peer relations could also result from sleep deprivation. Getting good sleep increases cognitive ability.

5 - Physical impairment: According to the National Sleep Foundation, your body shows the effects of not getting good sleep. Your coordination and motor functions may be impaired, and your reaction time may be delayed. You may have reduced cardiovascular performance, reduced endurance, and increased levels of fatigue due to sleep deprivation. Tremors and clumsiness can also result if you are not getting good sleep.

so do we really realized how bad not sleeping enough is???

what do yeee think???

I'm already well aware what lack of sleep does. Thing is, almost everyone lacks sleep now a days. So it's become a norm to stay up late and not care. I care, but just don't care enough to go to bed at 9pm.

I think we as human beings should just change out lifestyle all together. The normal time to sleep should be at 1am, and everyone wakes up at 11am instead to go to school/work..ect. That would be nice..

When people say "Oh, it's 10:30, I gotta sleep man."

I go crazy.

I. GO. CRAZY.

How do you sleep at 10:30pm?! THAT'S EARLY..

Ugh.

Right now since it's summer vacation I go to sleep at like.. 6am... but school is starting in like, three weeks. :'(

So I have to start sleeping earlier. *groan*

Sounds familiar:
Him: "Oh, shit! It's 10 pm! I better go to sleep."

An hour later...

Him: "Oh, shit! It's 11 pm! I'm late!"

Yet another hour later...

Him: "Oh, shi-..."
Us others: "Just get to bed already, if it's that important!"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I laughed so hard.

I do a similar thing.

"Ok, I'm gonna sleep at 11pm today. YES, I SHALL. LET'S DO THIS. WOOT."

At 5am:

"Wtf, the sun is already rising?"

If i don't sleep enough for a week or so, I get a fever...
But it's so hard to go to bed before midnight!

Maybe I should use those quotes as an excuse to sleep in. Haha.

Sounds more like myself:
Me: "Hmm... It's getting late. Oh, well! Let's just finish this quest/round/game first, and I'm off to bed! Shouldn't take long anyway."

Some time later...

*The cell phone beeps*
Me: "Oh, shit! Morning already? I better get ready for for school today!"

Holy shoot.. are you serious? This is the last time I'm ever staying up all night. Thanks for the info.. I only though sleep loss made you sleepy during the day loss of memory, and stressed.

I have insomnia.
I was up until 3 last night just tossing and turning.

It's now 7am and I have work in 2 hours.

FML.

EDiT;; oh yeah and weight gain? don't make me laugh. I've mysteriously lost about half a stone (7lb) in 2 weeks. Dunno if it's cause of having more difficulty sleeping lately, but there are very few changes I've made since 2 weeks ago.
My BMIs now 18.5. soooo apparently now i'm underweight.
I'm going to be xtian for a moment and say this is God's plan and he wants me to have another bacon sammich. I wouldn't argue.

ye my memory and iq are deteriorating...im becoming very forgetful these past days...i have had insomnia in my high school; now, i dont have, though im still sensitive with sleeping and stress.
I also easily get depressed; so what i do, i empty my mind and dont think. Im more relaxed, but my forgetfulness just increases.
