I'll just imitate from what I've seen in movies & Discovery Channel that involved this situation.

Well the basics are pretty much a survival bag that has basic stuff. I have MREs, matches, some water, maps and nav tools, a multitool, sharp knife, and you can never go wrong with a gun or riffle. I must admit my AR-15 is easy to use and maintain even for beginners.

2.) Some ammo for the gun
3.) A knife
4.) An axe
5.) A flare gun
6.) A survival book (the one tht tells you what to avoid... like types of plants you shouldn't eat n such)

The Magic Con Shell from SponeBobSquarePants

I'll just pull the string and let it guide me....

"What should I do now Magic Con?"

"Nothing"

Assuming I had foresight to plan ahead for each situation......

Woodlands are all more or less the same, except for rainfall or precipitation. I'd carry a knife with whetstone, magnesium flint and steel striker, a line kit of 550 cord (a light, thin nylon-braid cord used in parachute rigs, very durable and strong), a couple of Army-style ponchos (for personal use as well as shelter-building), an axe or hatchet, canteen, iodine tabs for water purification, bug spray, and watertight bags for extra water carrying and other purposes. A map and compass would be nice too.... All of that except the axe could fit in a backpack.

For surviving on open water, like the ocean, you're kind of in trouble without a ready means to produce fresh drinking water, like a filtration system. Without that, you couldn't be expected to live beyond a few days. It'd actually be easier to survive on the tundra. Just something to consider.
