name of pastry: madeleines

type of pastry: small French cake

what's on/in the pastry: pretty much depends on the recipe itself, but most common ingredients are unsalted butter, caster sugar, eggs, flour, baking powder and a flavour ingredient (eg: lemon / orange zest or rind, vanilla essence / extract, green tea powder etc.) it can alsp be dipped in melted chocolate or dusted with icing sugar

what does the pastry taste like: whatever flavour you put into it, when made properly the texture is like a moist sponge cake

what's special about your pastry: traditionally, madeleines are baked in a shell fluted baking tray, so when they are baked, the cake will have a rigged edge on one side and a hump on the other side

other information: featured in k-drama "my name is kim sam soon" (and i don't watch / like k-dramas)

decided to add some information in regards to the previous posts because the info was inadequate

name of pastry: cream puffs

type of pastry: choux pastry (originated in France)

what's on/in the pastry: most choux puffs recipes include butter, milk, water, flour, eggs. popular fillings include sweetened whipped cream / custard / ice cream

what does the pastry taste like: generally the baked choux puffs have no flavour except a slight egg taste and depends on the filling for the flavour

what's special about your pastry: when baked, the "wet" pastry dough puffs up like a ball and becomes hollow inside

other information: choux is pronouned as "shoo", the only pastry making method that requires heat is choux pastry, freezing the piped choux dough and adding a thin sugar cookie dough before baking results in a cookie crusted cream puff

***

name of pastry: strawberry shortcake

type of pastry: sponge cake / scone base

what's on/in the pastry: ingredients in the sponge cake include: butter, flour, eggs, sugar. the filling has alternate layers of sweetened whipped cream, strawberries and sponge cake. the sides can be covered with toasted sliced almonds / toasted coconut / toasted peanuts around the sides (optional)

what does the pastry taste like: cake layered with whipped cream and strawberries

what's special about your pastry: it can be made into a layered fruit cake by layering it with drained canned fruits, depending on location the sponge cake can be replaced with scones
