They're just wish fullfillment for loner guys, who cannot hold a conversation with a girl for 5minutes at a time. I prefer female characters that have personality.

I prefer female characters that have personality. well you hit the nail on the nail the head for me, i am loner and I prefer it that way and have my own issues around woman as it is. that aside I am sure your missing out on some great series like index, railgun, toradora, gosick, wandering son, etc but as I stated before to each his/her own opinion.

We all have different preferences. hmmm well on the topic even i hated k-on, there was no need to make the girls in to a bunch of retards eating cake, and what even pisses me off even more is the fact is that it might get a 3rd season plus a movie is coming out for it. I draw the line some where and that was the point, right there i would gladly take a bitchy character that will kick me in the nuts than some-one with down syndrome.

I'll throw in Suzaku from Code Geass (just finished watching) as well because of his sense of justice.
