I'm with mauz on this one. Just because something is not used in your field doesn't make it useless at all. Whatever happened to learning things just for the sake of expanding your knowledge, or knowing more about the world...?

... it pertained to the current conversation at least XD! Here, I'll talk about something on topic just for you mauz ^_^.

Hm... so my current decided major is Chemistry, and when I get out of college I'd like to do research on alternate fuel sources or analytical chemistry (research to expand the knowledge of chemistry in general, finding new elements etc.). I might not stay with this major seeing as I'm not in college as of yet, but it's looking like I'll be going in this direction. Any advice for a to be Chem Major?

Have fun. Chem labs sucked for me. Anyways, can anyone tell me how learning Fortran is like?

Advice for a CHM major...you got me there, I don't know. The best thing is to give it a try during your first year at college.
(guess who just got a 97 on the chm final? :))

I'm currently enrolled taking classes at DeVry. I'm going to try and hopefully graduate on my major which is GSP, which means Game Simulation & Programming; making games at least.

@ Kenshin
If you messed up with your grades in HS, you really have a problem. Well, do your best anyway.

EDIT:
@ roy9076
Sounds interesting. I need to refresh my programming skill. It’s been awhile. I quit programming job 2 years ago.

Yeah. I understand the whole programming bit. Visual Basic. Net isn't really that hard. But remembering is always a good thing.

We were using C, C++ and Pascal when VB was introduced to us. I guess, i was a sophomore that time. OOP is fun. But right after VB, foxpro followed, HTML, then Java. I was so full with my major and became overloaded with those things (yet IT trends kept on rising, and it’s difficult to cope up). I'm starting to hate it but i end up with a programming job after graduation. LOL. Well, after quitting the job, i am now skeptical if i can program again. Gosh! i need to scan my books. Read. Learn Practice.

I am now willing to study flash and PHP though.

I'm majoring in Web Design and minoring in Japanese. I pretty much have my minor covered, but I've still got a lot of work to do on my major because I just switched it recently. But if all goes well I should graduate by next December. As for classes.....

I've just finished up the following:
-Ancient Philosophy
-History of Jazz
-Japanese Culture through Film
-European History from the 1400's
-Writing for Media

And next semester I've got:
-Japanese Modern Literature
-"The Moving Image" (a basic film making class)
-Digital Immersive Environments (a web design class)
-Producing for Media
-History of Latin America
