Nice, I'm worried now that since there's also subs translation for the songs it might lesson it's appeal if the lyrics are not that good once I get to understand them. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

It better not ruin the nice sounding songs which I put a lot of meaning into after seeing so much happen in my favorite show, they better be some moving and emotional lyrics, or else...

Let's face it. Crunchyroll only exists because downloading erodes the value of anime and thus the producers will accept the lower returns from a Crunchyroll since they simply cannot force most anime fans into waiting till it is broadcast (in censored English, yuck) or goes to DVD (both of which have much higher monetary returns per viewer than internet streaming). I realize some companies want to save subtitles for the DVD, or broadcast to give a little extra incentive to watch, but they have to keep in mind the purpose of Crunchyroll in the first place, providing an alternative to free downloading. The fansubbers operate outside of licensing restrictions and thus can freely display subtitles karaoke or any other style (and are free to be elaborate). Crunchyroll must have the freedom to equal or exceed the quality of fansubs if this is going to be an effective business model. Disallowing song subtitling only disincentives people to use Crunchyroll in the first place.

From what I understand the music is provided by a different company that makes the anime so when CR licenses the anime it doesn't cover the music.

When you see shows that are sponsored by Avex, Dwango, Lantis etc that's usually because groups/singers that are signed up with them have provided the music and i guess they don't want there songs being incorrecting (possibly) translated into english.

From what I've heard the reason the song lyrics have to be approved is because of copyright law. The translated lyrics have to be personally approved by the lyrics owner, which is normally the lyrics writer. Apparently it normally takes 8+ weeks to get a response from the lyrics owner, and sometimes that response can be 'no'.
